sheesh, after reading some of the threads on here about cake, im so nervous. I was planning on using Audreys and was planning to do white chiffon cake, fresh fruit filling, and fondant icing. Now after reading all the horrible things ppl say about fondant, im worried. its a simple type cake id be looking to do. pic is below, was made w/ fondant (except cake would be light blue w/ choc brown scrolls), should i see about doing it in smooth buttercream? guess wouldnt want to risk whipped cream in august. also, is there a price diff b/n these diff types??

Okay, I'm using Audrey's for our Grooms Cake. Tom had to do Fondant on our cake and when I talked to him about my fear of the taste of fondant he said that he's do a layer of buttercream underneath the fondant to make it taste liek buttercream instead.
Why dont you ask about that?? I'm sure it'll be tasty either way
yay, good news. i heard this was a possible option, but wasnt sure audreys did that.

Audrey's doesn't make whipped cream between May and September so you really don't even have that as an option. Personally I prefer fondant, but it's much more expensive so we just went with buttercream since that is already included in the price of our hall.
thx for the info!!

Fondant at Audrey's is an extra $1.25 a slice if ure not getting married ad Flowerfield. I actually liked the taste of the fondant..it was marshmallowy. I think buttercream would be fine if u decided to do that. Either way, it'll taste great!

I chose the buttercream b/c I didn't want to pay the xtra for the fondant icing and I wanted my cake to be displayed during the reception and I was told if I did whipped cream I wouldn't be able to display it

I know fondant looks better, but it's more money and doesn't taste as good as buttercream frosting....IMO

I voted for buttercream. Fondant is too expensive and whipped cream is too delicate. Buttercream is the happy medium!

I was thinking the same thing! That's the way a cake was that I had at a party once. It tasted fine.

Fondant looks soo elegant and smooth, but personally I have YET to taste a fondant cake that made me go yum! I say go with Buttercream, the only real difference when looking at it is that it isnt as flat and smooth looking

Re: Cake poll (& other cake questions)
it's a beautiful cake! Buttercream will be fine and you can get the same smooth look as fondant. fondant is sweeter. however, fondant is sugar so it probably will cost more. Love the cake though!!

Re: Cake poll (& other cake questions)
whipped cream is not an option in aug....it melts, you'll just have sweet heavycream, sugary, milk. no whipped!
Buttercream or fondant

i know that fondant LOOKS nice, but i love the way whipped cream tastes...but not sure how it can hold up for an intricate cake
i know im worried about a warm day in august causing trouble for a whipped cream cake.
do you think this kind of cake would look good in something other than fondant?? i have no clue about cake.
Audreys does not offer Whipped cream for the summer they do offer butter cream.

Re: Cake poll (& other cake questions)
Fondant when flavored can be very tasty, but usually if someone doesn't lke fondant they can just peel it off and you are left with buttercream and cake. There is usually an up charge of $1-3 per slice for fondant. I would think if you had whipped cream in August it would have to be refrigerated till the cake cutting ceremony. Buttercream when done right can look as smooth as fondant. When you go for a cake tasting, know what you have in mind, call ahead if you want something in particular and they will help you. Good Luck!
