CAKE POLL: What would you choose to spend your money on?
so my hall does a winter promotion and for every guest coming i get a $1 towards a cake upgrade (example...125 guests i get $125...180 guests i get $180)
i cant decide if i want to spend the money on the inside and get red velvet with cream cheese icing or if i should spend it on the outside and do a fancier design
what would you do?
ETA: we are NOT having a vieniesse but we are having a 3 shelved dessert cart that goes to each table with lots of different desserts. We are also having an ice cream sundae/bananas foster bar to go along with the cake

this is kind of hard because i love when the cake looks amazing. but when i think about it, there is nothing that i hate more than when a cake looks great but tastes blah. at the end of the day i would rather something look average and have it taste amazing then look amazing but not be able to appreciate it for what it is because the inside does not compare to the 'look'. hth!

I personally would go by taste since FH and i are foodies and that matter most to us, however you can always think that people will be drinking and by the end of the night they can care less how it tast, lol. I think most wedding cakes look amazing just by the size and unquiness alone. Good luck!

Can I be honest? It only matters if you like how it tastes, that's the only thing people remember. Amazing looking wedding cakes are beautiful yes, but they get eaten! I think it is more important for it to be a cake you like to eat, insetad of a cake you like to look at (since it will be gone by the end).

i said outside..just bc the last wedding i was at in march my cousin had a beautiful cake-and i distinctly remember what it looked like, but i think i had one bite, and remember nothing about that

Thats a hard question...but I went with the outside.
The basic fillings..chocolate, vanilla, whatever- taste good no matter what. No need to upgrade that.
But the outside its gonna be whats in your pictures and what people look at the entire night until its cut!!
So I picked outside.

I totally and respectfully disagree with this.
I think people remember the way the cake looks, and you can get some gorgeous amazing pictures with it that you will have forever!
A lot of people don't even bother with eating wedding cake at a wedding, especially if there's a Viennese hour or table. Or if they've eaten a ton already.
We had the basics -- vanilla with vanilla custard and butter cream and it was freaking AMAZING tasting.
You should do what is important to YOU and your FH. Find out what a cake without the extras that YOU LOVE will cost then put the 'extras' into whatever will make you happiest.

well i voted for outside decoration but its depends, if your having a v-hour then def spend th emoney on the outisde but if your not having a v-hour spend the extra money on the filling

That's tough...but Audrey's Bakery cakes (the bakery that Lovin Oven caterers uses) are delicious no matter what, so I would upgrade the outside!!!! Make it even more beautiful for you and your guests to look at!!

i say go for the better taste! there are a lot of pretty cakes that are simple, but its important that it tastes just as good.

I say go inside because audreys cakes - even the basic ones - are beautiful and don't really need to be upgraded!

My friend's wedding cake was gorgeous and FH and i were excited to taste it... but it tasted horrible. Years later, I can't recall what it looked like, but still remember it wasn't good. It you aren't have a V hour, I would invest in taste. No matter how nice the cake looks, you want people to eat it.

I say the outside - the cake will be displayed all night long for people to see and the pictures of the cake are what you'll have forever. You won't remember for too long after the wedding what it tasted like.

personally... the inside. At a wedding I recently attended, I'm not gonna lie, the cake looked amazing and I know for a fact she spent a ton of money on it, but it actually did not taste too good. I had one bite for luck and then put it down. I can't even imagine spending so much money on something that looks pretty but then no one will want to eat it.
