CAKE POLL: What would you choose to spend your money on?
Original post by CloudNine
so my hall does a winter promotion and for every guest coming i get a $1 towards a cake upgrade (example...125 guests i get $125...180 guests i get $180)
i cant decide if i want to spend the money on the inside and get red velvet with cream cheese icing or if i should spend it on the outside and do a fancier design
what would you do?
ETA: we are NOT having a vieniesse but we are having a 3 shelved dessert cart that goes to each table with lots of different desserts. We are also having an ice cream sundae/bananas foster bar to go along with the cake

I'm getting married at Flowerfield too - a year after you.
There was only a winter package deal for 09 and 10. There is no such package for 2011.
I did see the package deals for the other years though and the cake thing really had me thinking about it recently.
My fiance and I are upgrading the INSIDE of the cake and getting the flavors and layers we want. Then again the cake really isn't my thing. I don't want anything ostentatious or crazy -it is after all, just a cake imo.

that stinks that they arent doing the package for 2011...it really is an amazing package that tehy give, they give so much. my problem with cake is that i cant relaly find anything on the outside that i like. and when i finally do come across a few designs they seem to be more intricate than plain so i know it will cost more but red velvet is different AND matches my wedding colors lol.

Most guests don't eat the cake so I am choosing the outside to the inside.

Re: CAKE POLL: What would you choose to spend your money on?
this is a hard decision because of course you want your cake to look amazing but in the end, imo, i want to know i paid for something that tastes amazing doesnt just look great. So i go for the inside
Either way, just because you wouldnt be upgrading one of the parts doesnt mean itll look like crap, ya know, it will just be plainer
i was at a wedding in june and when we first saw the cake, it looks really plain on the outside and then it didnt taste too good! i definately think that if it woulda tasted good at the end of the night, we woulda forgot that it looked not so great on the outside

I would go with the inside. How many upgrades can you really do to the outside? I'm using Rolling Pin Bakery and basically everything is included for the outside-unless you have some elaborate design idea then put the $ toward the outside.
Re: CAKE POLL: What would you choose to spend your money on?
I said go for looks not taste - everyone is going to have a diff opinion on waht tastes good so some will be disappointed and some will be elated with the taste anyway...

That's tough...but Audrey's Bakery cakes (the bakery that Lovin Oven caterers uses) are delicious no matter what, so I would upgrade the outside!!!! Make it even more beautiful for you and your guests to look at!!
edited for spelling
I agree! Any Audrey's desserts/cookies/cakes/etc that I have ever eaten has ALWAYS been fabulous...Personally, I would go for the outside!!
