Cake problems

I need some opinions as I am not sure what to do. The hall we are having the reception at uses Tildas for cakes. However they use Audreys for pastries. When we booked we were told we could use Audreys for cakes at no additional charge. This was great because we are very stretched for money with 8 weeks to go!! Well it wasnt written down so now thats not true. The hall also puts a scoop of ice cream next to the cake which we dont want so we decided on a chocolate covered strawberry for $1 per person. Our problem is that if we go thru Audreys, its going to cost us $1.50-$2.50 per person but the hall will waive the charge for the berries because we are not using their cakes. For 180 people that could be $270 - $450 just for the cake. Yet the berries would have been $180..but now we are above the $$. Should we just go with the less desirable cake and have the berries? Or just have the less desirable cake and no berries?? Or cake and ice cream (which again we dont really like that idea but...) I know this is going to be silly 3 months from now when its all over but I dont want people to have a great time and then hate the dessert... Any opinions are welcome!! Thank you!

Cake problems (Long)

First thing, the hall does not have to put ice cream next to the cake. I too, plan on telling the catering mgr., No ice cream. Ask the mgr. for petit fours or small cookies on the table instead of ice cream. Next, the strawberry is a great touch, but will your guests remember it?? Probably not. Honestly, when I am a guest at a wedding, I never remember what the cake tasted like. But, I usually remember what it looked like before it was cut up!! What don't you like about the cake that the hall is offering you?? Maybe whatever it is can be discussed and changed. Try to avoid going over your budget just for extra special dessert. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Cake problems

This is a little confusing. If you go with Tildas then the cake is part of the price you paid for the hall right? If yes then I would just go with that. If money is an issue (which it is for a lot of us I`m sure) then it pay not be worth it to may all the extra money for a chocolate covered strawberry. The scoop of ice cream may not be your ideal wedding dessert but it does give people an option. This is just my opinion. I would not want to pay all that extra money. I found that at my sisters wedding a lot of the guests (including me)did not even eat the cake because we were busy doing other things. In the end you may find that you got upset over nothing. Hope this helps.

Cake problems

Where are you getting married? I am getting married at Land's End and they use Audrey's too...I think it is owned by Lovin Oven...Nothing is in my contract about Audrey's either...yikes! but in the long run, I agree, people ususally look at the cake more than eat it.

Another suggestion....

Can you negotiate waiving something else to get the cake you want? We negotiated to omit a few items from the cocktail hour in order to get baked clams added to it. Since NY receptions have SO MUCH food at the cocktail hour, maybe they will forego one or two items there and give you the cake and strawberries you want and you and your guests will never miss the cocktail items.

Just curious.....

Why does everyone have a problem with the ice cream? I thought most people like ice cream? Can they serve it in a separate dish?

The saga continues....

East Wind wont order the cake from Audreys which would save me $1 per person than walking off the street into Audreys. Apparently, EW is starting a bakery and stopped business with Audreys 2 months ago to do their own pastries. (got this from an insider) Its not my problem that I booked EW last september and it was not a problem to go thru Audreys but now that they stopped doing business with them they will look 'ashamed'. They keep asking for a cake # (from the pics we saw) for Tildas but Audreys does names. It is so stupid to get so crazy over a cake but all I need to hear is- ok we will order you the traditions cake from audreys and it will cost you 50 cents per person more... FINE...I would be so happy. but no..... Sorry to vent but I know you guys help! I want to cry but this is such a waste of time....(work time though) :)

Cake problems

if they are baking in house now....maybe they will just include it and/or it may be cheaper than using an outside place. i would definately call and speak to a manager and tell them the whole story....let them know that this is unexceptable, you booked with them way in advance b/c of their reputation...blah blah blah....and that you will not stand for all this confusion so close to your wedding- you were told something and you picked the place based on these reasons and that is the way you want it. i know it is tuff- i would want to cry to but you need to get mad and stand up to them. Let them know that if this does not get worked out you will make sure that you post your experience with them here and that you will never reccomend them to anyone. most places push you as much as they can and if you don''t let them maybe you will see results! these places are based on customer service to run their business and you need to remind them of that. this is uncalled for and you will not stand for this- you want a straight answer and you want the answer that was told to you when you signed the contract....if not you want to know why and what they will do to make up for it....and this time tell them you want it in writing!! i feel sad for you b/c i know how i would feel- but think in 10 years this will be a funny story you tell your kids!! it will work out and your day will be great! keep us posted!!

The saga continues....

Try not to get too upset. I think what some of the other girls said is true. People remember more what the cake looked like than tasted like. $1 per person is a lot when you have to pay for a whole wedding party. Consider using the cake that they offer. And try not to stress to much about it. (Sure that`s easy for me to say.) It will all work out in the end. Good Luck (LOL about the work time comment)
