FH and I were just having a conversation about the wedding cake. My favorite cake is yellow cake with dark chocolae frosting. I thought this would look amazing as a wedding cake decorated with autumn color flowers.
FH thinks this isn't 'wedding-ish' (I hate it when he has opinions on things wedding related somtimes)
We can have up to 4 different types of fillings etc. in the cake. Do you think it would look stupid to have a couple of dark frosted layers and a couple of the traditional white frosted layers?

Re: cake question
omg i was thinking something so similar. we love cake from bj;s lol. the yellow cake with the white really sweet frosting ( i think it is buttercream). it is so simple and i was thinking would be great. i just hate when ppl have weird fillings, and they have a strange taste, and the cake gets soggy. we still have to go to the bakery and pick something out. my only problem is what filling? do you have to have a filling? i think you could do both if they alternated.

Re: cake question
Personally I think wedding cakes should be white and with grooms cakes you can do what you want. But thats my personal opinion, its your cake so I say do what you want to do.
Here are two pretty cakes I have seen that might work for you.
I think it would look cool if you did alternating chocolate and vanilla icing. What are your wedding colors? maybe you can contrast with an orange flower with a dark center (gerber daisies?) on the white layers to pull it together.
another option is a cupcake tower with alternating layers/flavors...
i say go for it! granted, the pic below is just decorated with brown, but its inspiring!
You have to do what makes you (and FH) happy. Personally, I want my cake to be white. And I'm not so worried about what it tastes like b/c I'm having about 1 bajillion other desserts at our wedding. Hehehe.

Re: cake question
thanks - I love the alternating colors. My wedding colors are browns and golds - the autumn colors.
I've been kind of the anti-bride with a lot of stuff, which is why I don't think I want a traditional cake. FH is way more traditional than I am and since this wedding thing was all his idea, I don't want it to look too wedding-ish.

Re: cake question
I think that would look kind of cool actually but you might have to check with the hall and see if they'll do that as part of the package or you have to pay extra. I think a chocolate frosted cake with flowers is very classy actually. I hate white frosting.

thanks! The hall said they'd do anything I want, so I think I'm just gonna go for it.

isnt it funny how guys dont really care about doing things but then have opinions about wedding things when you dont ask them about it! They just make more work for you!
