so you know those things that look like ribbon that go around the cake...is it really ribon? does the bakery usually provide them or do you have to get them and are they only able to do a cake like this if its fondant?
also wondering the same thing about the rhinestone looks things that go around the layers
or are they even ribbon at all or is just another color buttercream/fondant ....
it is actual ribbon I believe and I also believe it's provided by the bakery

Re: cake question
its actually ribbon, some bakeries will provide and some won't. You can't use regular ribbon if its a buttercream cake because the cream will seep through the ribbon and will make the ribbon look oily. For buttercream cakes you have to get a waterproof ribbon, which can usually get from a florist, because it also needs to be thick enough for the cake

Re: cake question
ummm it depends. It CAN be real ribbon or it can be fondant....
it gets colored and dusted to shimmer.... its really your call
Actually easier to do with a fondant cake anyway...
you can also get edible beads to look like rhinestones

Re: cake question
It depends... it can be real ribbon but sometimes it is fondant. The fondant is died to whatever color and then there is this shimmery stuff (forget what it's called but my sis uses it) that gives it the shine.

Re: cake question
Crashing (because our board is kinda dead...) to say that ours was buttercream colored to look like ribbon. They matched my swatch EXACTLY.
