Cake question- if you didn't use the one provided by the hall

Does anyone know how this works?

If you don't use the halls cake, and they allow you to bring in an outside cake, were you able to negotiate for something else instead.

I'm thinking about bringing in my own cake but feel like I'm already paying for one even thought it's plain. I figure, for the price of the upgrade I might as well go to the bakery I want.

Any advice, thoughts,experience ...

yeah, most halls will give you some sort of reimbursment

my moms best friend (and the mother of one of my BM - a long time fabulous friend..)well, she makes cakes - so i negotiated a little with the banquet manager. i dont remember for what, but its in the contract..
just keep in mind, some places will make you bring in a waver type thing, like if anyone gets sick, its not their responsibility, etc.
