This is the picture of the cake I asked for....i wanted a square cake with pale green hydrangeas in between each tier, the bakery said it would be no problem at all and that the flowers would easily hide each support pole ( i really don't like it when you can see the separators)
i could not get in touch with the bakery the week of my wedding to confirm that everything was ok, i left several messages and was just told that i would be called if there were any problems, if not, the cake would just be there on saturday
my wedding day was perfect, and I know a silly cake is not a big deal, but it really isn't what I asked for, or paid for, it also wasn't big enough, they said we didn't need an extra sheet cake but 4 tables didn't get any cake!!!! what would you do??
I would call and complain big time. As long as your wedding day went smoothly its ok BUT you pay a vendor for soemthing and expect it to be doen the right way . The cake you wanted has beige in it the cake you got is white and the flower they put on yours (no offense) look like broccoli from far away! You deserve some sort of compensation BIG TIME ESP. IF NOT EVERYONE GOT CAKE! You tell them how many ppl it is their responsability to make enough cake for all!

Re: cake question...what would you do?
Who was going to supply the flowers? Were they going to put the flowers at the bakery or was the florist going to do it once the cake got to the RH? I would tell them that the cake you got was not what you ordered and that it didn't feed all the people at the RH.

Re: cake question...what would you do?
thank you! that is what i thought, the flowers looked exactly like steamed brocoli!! they were bright green and i asked for antique green hydrageas, if you look at my flowers in my other album you will see why the cake stood out so much, it looked like it belonged at someone elses wedding, hehe and it was bright white!!! it was supposed to be ivory

Re: cake question...what would you do?
that is one of the reasons i kept calling the week of the wedding, to say my florist would gladly supply matching flowers, they would not call me back!! and even stopped by and got totally blown off........did i mention it was supposed to be a square cake!! haha it isn't even the right shape :(

Re: cake question...what would you do?
The cake you got was pretty too, looks similar to the one you wanted, but there is a difference.
A lot of questions : Did you have a contract with the bakery that specified all the details ? How many people was this cake supposed to feed ? Was the cost fixed or a 'per slice' rate ?How many people were at the RH ? Did the RH cut the cake incorrectly, i.e. the slices too big, didn't cut all of it .
Four tables is way too many people to not receive any cake. That's 40 to 48 people, depending upon how many are seated at a table.
I would get the answers to the questions, then approach the bakery manager/owner with what happened, and then try to get a financial resolution.
Good luck !

I would want some money back. It is not even close to what you paid for.

Re: cake question...what would you do?
It definately isn't ugly, but I see a complete difference btw the cake you got and the one you wanted. I know how I am and I would call them and be compensated and the fact that there was not enough cake as totally ridiculous!

Re: cake question...what would you do?
wow thats ridiculous that so many people didnt get cake. Your contract should have indicated for how many people the cake was to serve, if thats not what you got then they need to find a way to reimburse you for the isse they caused.

Re: cake question...what would you do?
well, i would complain to whoever cut the cake. they should have cut it into smaller pieces. just kidding!! lol no but i would definitely complain to the bakery unless if the amount of people was specified incorrectly. But still i would want the cake i ordered!

Re: cake question...what would you do?
thanks girls, i guess the way i had to order my cake was a little different than most....we used the bakery that my rh uses......the cake was included in the total price of the rh, but it was never specified what the exact $$$ for the cake could be, when i went to meet with the bakery i showed the pic of the cake i wanted, was told they could do exactly that but would have to find the right square supports) i asked about the price per slice and they said, not to worry, they know what my rh allows price wise and he called up right then to ask if he could 'stretch' it a little to give me the cake I wanted.....they said sure (we had it at my parents country club, so i guess things are worked out a little differently) i was told it would easily feed 210 guests, and not to worry about purchasing an extra sheet cake we only had 190 at the wedding and 40 people did not get cake.....and no the rh did not cut the slices to big, they were TINY!!!!!!
i was calling and calling the weeks before to make sure they got the right square supports he needed, finally got back to me and said that he had three more calls in to companies and he would call me back to let me know if there was a problem (this was 3 days before the wedding!) so basically he totally forgot about the stupid square things until I showed up that week asking to speak with him about it.......I called the next day to make sure he found them and had to leave yet another message....... i was told that i would be contacted if there was a problem, if not, everything will be fine, i was also made to feel like 'why am i bothering them, everything is fine' unfortunately I left it up to them, focused on the rest of the plans and walked into the reception to see a small bright white and green round cake with dead brocoli in between each tier, hehe
the contract states 210 guests, the crazy thing is there was never a price discussed, just that the allowance was 'stretched' and it would be included in the final rh price that had already been finalized.....
when i get back to long island I am going to bring in both pictures and see what they say
all that being said, they also provided a groom's cake the night before which was very nice :)

Re: cake question...what would you do?
Since the bakery is contracted by the RH, then go thru the RH first with your complaint.

Re: cake question...what would you do?
Since the cake was really through your RH, I would start there. Definitely present them with both pictures and ask plenty of questions. Four tables with no cake is a lot!

Re: cake question...what would you do?
You actually have two issues there--first, the flowers are wrong. Now, that might not be their fault, I know it can be difficult with hydrangeas to get the color you want. They may have ordered light green and that's what they got. However, it looks like they didn't order enough, that they cheaped out on you. And that's wrong, especially if you specifically told them you wanted enough to hide the supports and they said they would.
Then, the fact that four tables didn't get cake is another issue. These guys do this for a living, they should know how much cake it takes to feed a certain number of people. If four tables didn't get enough, that could be forty people! That's a LOT of cake. They owe you a BIG refund on that. It's humiliating to you that your guests weren't served wedding cake as they should have been. People wait for the cake. You need to complain--first to the RH, then to the baker. Good luck.
Sorry about this. And, at least the cake was quite pretty (other than the wrong color hydrangea.

Re: cake question...what would you do?
Wow, they certainly didn't get it right. close, but not what you really wanted.
Definitely complain about it. You asked for square not round and the flowers weren't full enough to hide the post. That was the whole point of bringing in a picture of what you wanted.
I'll have to keep this in mind when I go for my cake.
Good Luck!!!

Re: cake question...what would you do?
For some reason, when I click on each link the same exact picture comes up. So I am not seeing the difference in what you wanted and what you got. I will try looking again to see the 2 different cakes.
