Ever since I saw this photo on LIW, I wanted the cake design to be the same sooo badly! Crest Hollow doesn't provide this stuff so I have to buy the ribbon and rhinestone myself.
I went to Michaels and bought a pink satin ribbon - is that okay or will the buttercream soak through it?
And does anyone know where I can buy a long strand of rhinestone - I've seen them as two strands together, but I only want it as one.
I think bakers use satin ribbon all the time. but it might make a difference if they are using buttercream vs. fondant. The butter cream could soak through, but I dont think fondant would. Can you ask their baker for recommendations on what to buy?

Re: Cake Ribbon & Rhinestone Help/Question
For the rhinestones, I'd try the trimming stores in Manhattan, around 6th avenue and the upper 30's (37, 38 39 streets) M&J Trimmings is one of the largest stores.
To test the ribbon, take a small piece and put a dab of butter on the back of it, let it sit and see if the butter soaks thru. If it does, you can always back the ribbon with some baker's acetate, a clear heavy piece of film that is used to make ring forms around pastries.

I'll have to see if they can do that, the impression I got was that if I changed the cake too much I would incur a charge.

That is the same cake I decided on : ) The cake is fondant by the way, it won't look the same with buttercream. Fondant sits on top of buttercream. I bought my ribbon on ebay (mine is lime green), Ribbon needs to be 1 1/2 inch long (as per what my baker instructed me) I got the rhinestones trim on ebay for $8 for 5 yards.

Haha, and we're getting married a day apart, awesome! So is your cake fondant?
Do you remember who the ebay seller was? Maybe I can just order it from them. Thanks!

Re: Cake Ribbon & Rhinestone Help/Question
your best bet is to speak with the baker first to see how they do things or what they would require etc. i know ours will only use products from a certain store etc.
if ure in the city...there are a bunch of stores that sell the trim....either with or without the mesh (i would ask your baker what they prefer to work with) the pricier store is mj trimming but there are other stores around the area.
http://www.mjtrim.com/
u can find it online too...google rhinestone trim http://www.ejoyce.com/pmain?cmd=e_sublist&depth=1&acode=0001&bcode=00010002
if you are using buttercream...i dont think ull be able to just use the satin ribbon as is.
here are some suggestions http://forums.chef2chef.net/viewtopic.php?t=467359
other info i found...cover the back of the ribbon with wax paper, instructions:
All you do is lay down a dish towel on the ironing board with the wax paper on top of it (wax side up), place the ribbon on it, put another piece of wax paper on top of the ribbon (wax side down), put another dish towel on top of that and iron away with a hot iron. I asked her how you know when it is ready and she said to just go over it a few times as it isn't difficult to melt a little wax paper on to your ribbon.

Oh Wow!! Thanks! I didn't realize it would be so complicated! Haha, I think I'll definitely have to ask the baker what he prefers, thanks!!

Re: Cake Ribbon & Rhinestone Help/Question
You will always incur a charge if you change it slightly... That is how they get you. I didn't pick my cake out yet but Leonards told me that I get to choose from 3 free cakes, if I want anything changed or upgraded or a totally different cake then I have to pay the difference. I am surprised they didn't just charge you and are making you go get it yourself.
Thanks for all of the advice everyone!! I contacted the baker and will be meeting with her this weekend to discuss the ribbon. I'll update about the ribbon.
