calf cramps

I've had the worse pain (cramp) in my right calf all day. It kills to touch it, did anyone else have this early on. I took off from work today because I was feeling like crap in general.

A Charlie Horse? Those hurt like hell. I had then a bunch of times during my pregnancy. Drink water and that helps prevent them.

Re: calf cramps

I get Charlie Horses...it is a throbbing pain that occurs when I am sleeping as if someone is ripping off my calves. The pain stays with me for a day or two after (but not as intense). I got one or two in my first trimester. I get them occasionally now in my 2nd tri-mester. I have read they are a result of lack of water (dehydration) or lack of calcium or potassium. I am now trying to add more calcium and potassium to my diet because I don't think it is lack of water. I am tryin gto drink more OJ (with Calcium) and some bananas here and there. My friend gets them from lack of potassium and tries to eat a banana before bed. I have read things that recommend this to prevent them.

Denise you crack me up sometimes the way you explain things!!!

Charlie horses are the worst!!! I get them once in a while when I'm sleeping... the one thing I know that helps is flexing my foot to relieve the pain, never point your toe!

Good luck! OH whenever I do get a charlie horse at night, my calf is ALWAYS in tons of pain the day or two after...

Re: calf cramps

i get charlie horse cramps more than the avg person does (at least I think so. once every 2 weeks at night). And I am not even pregnant.

I have heard to eat bananas - the potassium in them helps to stop them. If you are concerned about the sugar content in bananas, wait until the green on the skin is gone (they'll get a bit brown) - that means the starch is being eaten up by the skin = less sugar in them.
