so with the wedding and buying our home, we are strapped for $$$ ... cant afford a luxurious honeymoon SO we decided on San Fran/Napa and Vegas
I am familiar with Vegas and all there is to do there, but what about Cali? Does anyone have ideas about great hotels, great spots to visit, places we CANT miss while there?
TIA girls, im clueless when it comes to stuff like this

When I visited SF with FH a few years ago, we had drinks and dancing at the Top of the Mark (at the Intercontinental Hotel)...it was a lot of fun, and you have a great view of the entire city. Unfortunately, it was very foggy the night we went so we couldn't see much, but we still had a great time, and we still talk about it. You can also have dinner there, but we chose to have drinks and an appetizer, and it wasn't terribly expensive.

yes we are absolutely going to rent a car and tour around the coast, see the pacific etc. Ive been to San Fran and done the whole Wharf thing before and i love it, FH has never been.
im hoping to find a resort/lodge in Napa maybe stay 2 nights and then 2 nights in the city.
then we will fly to vegas for 3-4 days (luckily his dad has connections at Bellagio for a suite)
it wasnt my first choice, but it will be fun, especially in october with the season changing etc.

Also, we stayed at the Four Points Sheraton near the SF airport...not a luxurious place, but nice and clean, included a refrigerator and microwave, and A LOT cheaper than staying in dowtown SF. It's close to the highways, so we rented a car and it was easy to get to downtown when we needed it, plus the hotel has a shuttle to the airport, and from there you can take the BART train to downtown and other places (although we found the BART a bit slow for our fast-paced NY tastes, but that's just us)

You're going pretty far up north, but i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going down to Southern Cal in the San Diego area. And of course theres beverly hills, LA etc. San Diego has some of the most beautiful beaches, then theres also places like Sea World, San Diego zoo, Disney land..if you like that type of thing. But def. rent a car and drive up and down the Pacific Coast Highway..its to die for!
Ahhhhhhh i wanna go now lol

There are great hotels right on the wharf in SF with great views of the SF bridge. So many great restaurants all within walking distance. There's a lot to see in SF.
The Bellagio rooms are FABULOUS! Make sure you get a room facing the fountains.

we will deff spend a day at the wharf, at least 1 day doing napa - wine tasting etc. also maybe 1 day driving around the coast, beaches etc.
how far is it from the city to napa and the wineries? would it make more sense to stay in the city or in napa?

fh and i went to san fran last labor day weekend. we stayed in the city, at hotel monaco, and did a day trip to napa and sonoma. there's lots to see in SF and we had a great time. if I ever go back, I'd stay in Napa or Sonoma - it's just gorgeous there. since it's fall - I would stay in wine country, but i don't know if they'll have leaves changing and all that like they will here. it was hotter in Napa than in SF, but gorgeous everywhere.

Monterey IS gorgeous; also Big Sur, Pebble Beach. I would stay up north if you can and skip L.A. It's a drive and for your HM I'd do exactly what you said and do SF/Napa and then vegas. Monterey isn't that far south of SF - I stayed at a Best Western there right on the coast and it was GORGEOUS!

I think its about 2 hours. My sister used to live in San Fran - I personally would LOVE doing like 3 nights in San Fran and then 3 nights in Napa. Both are great places and romantic and you will find plenty to do.
