Called to put deposit on CH....now what? (VERY LONG)

Im really nervous. I was confident about our choice, but after speaking with her today, I feel uneasy. We decided to 'extend' our Cocktail Hour and she told me it would be a flat rate of $500. When we met with her, I specifically asked her how much of a deposit was required. She said $1000. She never mentioned that if we were to extend the cocktail hour, we would have to pay for it up front. I called today to tell her we would like to put a deposit down and she said that was great, we could either pay the $1500 by check or credit card. I asked her where the $500 and she said that we had to pay for it up front.

Also when we were there, I tried to work something out with the vienesse hour. She said she wouldnt be able to adjust the price until we signed the contract. Over the phone today, she wanted to know EXACTLY what options we were taking. I didnt know what to say.
I told her my FI would be coming in to drop off the depositon saturday by himself. Now Im not sure what will happen....will he have to sign anything or does that come later. Please help because I've been stressing about this all day!!!!

You need to negotiate before you sign the contract and before you give your deposit. Once they have your money I am sure they will not negotiate. I know the East Wind did, but I would not count on it.

I agree that is very shady!! we did MOST of the negotaiting before the contract was signed.. they did budge on some stuff after that BUT they didnt have to.

But when he drops off the deposit, will he have to sign the contract right there? I'd want to read it myself. I'd go with him, but I work on saturdays. Should I reschedule for when we can both go in?

yes once you leave the deposit you sign the contract. I would definitly want to be there for that.. we had alot of other things to discuss at that time. what kind of things did you want to do with the vienesse hour?

eta - sorry one more thing!! there were a few 'options' that when we booked we werent sure if we wanted/could afford. so we negotatiated the price of everything we wanted/ might want and have it as an 'option' in the contract.. so right now we are not paying for it but if but if at any point in time I decide I want to add one or all of these things to the wedding.. the price is in the contract already.

Yes always sign a contract before you leave a deposit with any of your vendors. If not you do not have any proof of the services they are providing at what cost!!!!!!!!!!!!

go with him not insulting ANYONE but men seem to skim details ( i know my FH does) i read the ENTIRE contract and just as someone else said i haad prices written down in case i choose to add something later i did not want the price to change! that is an EXCELLENT point! and if they dont do this then i would be hesitant to sign...

also what does CH stand for? crest hollow?

uh..... I was so excited about this yesterday, and now this whole problem has made an otherwise happy situation into a really crappy one. I all ready feel we are starting off on the wrong foot.

They sent us our contract through the mail 3 days after we went in to put the deposit down. We have 2 weeks to return it so we can look it over (FH's stepmom is a lawyer, which is helpful). But we have the option to always upgrade later to the other stuff (which is stated in the contract as well). Might I ask what hall this is?

i agree, you need to negotiate first
negotiate, have the contract written up, sign it and hand over the money...
make sure the extras are written into the contract, dont let them say that theyll remember, and go along with your fh so that you can verify everything you want
