Has anyone contacted a calligraphy company to address your invitations? I'm planning on having mine laser printed with ink to match the invites. However, the rate I was quoted is $1.50 for the outside envelope and $.50 for the inside envelope. Isn't this an outrageous price? Maybe not for hand calligraphy, but for laser printing?!? Just hoping someone else can give me an idea of what they spent.

Thanks!

Bride's name daughter of Mr. and Mrs. XXXX and Groom's name son of Mr. and Mrs. XX invite......

I just did mine last night on my own printer...it took me about an hour to do about 100 invitations (outside envelopes only). It came out amazing because I have a ink jet printer, used a Calligraphy font which looked like real ink.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of name do you put on the inside envelope? Is it necessary? The place I bought my invitations said it should be the "casual" name such as "Aunt Mary and Uncle Cal" and on the outside write the formal "Mr. & Mrs. Calvin Whatever."

Mr. & Mrs. John Jones invite you to share in their joy at the marriage of their daughter, Melissa Jones to Michael Smith...

Most often it is the formal name on the outside and less formal on the inside envelope, but typically not including relationship titles such as "aunt" and "uncle" Here's an example

Outside: Mr. and Mrs. John Doe 1 Elm Street Anywhere, New York 00000

Inside: John and Jane Doe or just John and Jane

I keep hearing different things about the inside envelope. This woman told me that I could either put Mr. and Mrs. again, or just put Bill and Mary. She said the real point of the inside envelope is to list family members. For instance, on the outside it would say Mr. and Mrs. Smith. On the inside, it would say Mr. and Mrs. Smith again, and then list the childrens' first names underneath. Or if you are inviting a single woman, it would say Ms. Sharon Smith on the outside and Ms. Sharon Smith & Guest (or & Escort) on the inside. But a lot of people don't have inner envelopes, so I don't think it really matters. Plus she charges an extra 30 cents for the inside envelope. So, I'd rather save that money if I do end up using her. Maybe I should try to do them on my own. Otherwise, addressing them will end up costing me almost as much as the invitations themselves!!

Thanks for the advice!

Inside: John and Jane Doe or just John and Jane

I was just wondering what software do you use to get that particular font for the envelopes?

I bought the book a week ago from this site. Here's the link.

I had a hand-me down computer and my friend had already put hundreds of fonts on...I may be able to send you the font itself if you'd like and then you could just load it in...you can e-mail me directly if you want it....It really came out nice.

Invitation Guidelines and Calligraphy

Jill, Yes, $1.50 for a laser printed envelope is an insane price. I've been pricing hand calligraphy on the web, and the going price is $1.00 for the outside address. I've been an amateur calligrapher for years and have addressed envelopes for friends as wedding gifts. Now I'm finally going to get to do my own (!) and am looking into the process of doing the entire invitation package.

Here's a site with an excellent overall guide to invitations. http://www.invitationsetc.com/main2.htm

Microsoft works does a fabulous job--and it's free!! You can match the font on the inside of the invites perfectly :)

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Invitation Guidelines and Calligraphy

I did all of my invitations by hand in calligraphy. I have done them for other folks and I've charged 1.00 for the entire inside/outside envelope, .50 for each. I put full formal name on outside and Mr. & Mrs. SO and SO on the inside. It took me about 3 hours to do 140 envelopes. Not too bad. If anyone would like help, let me know. Calligraphy is soooo easy to do once you learn it.
