So sorry to hear about your first shopping experience Curly. Most of the salons only carry one sample size which stinks b/c you can't see what a dress really looks like on you if its not the right size. It never made sense to me why dresses are only sent in one size. But don't worry....you will find that perfect dress!!!!

Curly- I don't understand the whole one sample size thing because it is extremely difficult to imagine what the dress looks like when it fits properly. This is just a suggestion-- why don't you go to Davids where they have dresses in all different sizes so that you can figure out what style you like best-- then it might be easier to imagine what the dresses at the salon would look like when they are all fitted.

Karina - That's why I avoided the salons from the get-go and went to a place in Texas called BridesMart...it's all off the rack so I was able to try on my actual size. Y'all saw me and know I am a big ole healthy girl, so no way was I going near those salons for the teensy girls. I haven't worn a size 8 since I was like, 12. Now, being that BridesMart is in Dallas and won't help you, perhaps the girls know of some similar places (in addition to David's Bridal) on the Island where you can try on off the rack sizes. OR - you squeeze into whatever sample size they carry, decide if the dress speaks to you and then order it in your size. As excited as I am about getting married, this freakin' industry really ****es me off. It is very easy to get discouraged if you're not rich and thin.

hey girls, a gtg sounds really fun, but i'm rarely ever on the island so i doubt i'd be able to make it. but anyway, sorry about the bad dress experience. i'm going when i come home president's day weekend. i'm not really looking forward to trying on dresses in size 14 or larger and trying to figure out what it'll really look like. i'm only 4'10'!! it's going to be ridiculous.
anyway, this weekend was productive for me. we got the guest list nailed down except for a few b-listers that we're undecided about. we also decided on and ordered invites. i'll see if i can figure out how to get them in my profile. and we picked ray o'connor as our photographer!! although we have to make sure that they got the message we left the other day. we picked him mainly b/c my sister and brother used him and i love their pics and also he offered some specials for being a repeat customer.
next up dj, limos and hm!

Fletch- I hope I do find 'the dress', lol.
Dcbride- I did go to David's Bridal and it felt like a flea market. I HATED it. It was so disorganized and the dresses were ugly. NO OFFENSE if anyone bought it there. I'm sure they look good on evryone except me, hahahahaha
Thrilled- You summed it up perfectly!!!!! Thin and rich is the key to this game but that will not stop me from having a blast on my wedding day It is very easy to get discouraged (like i was last night) but I have hope I will find it.

Karina- Really tiny people also have a problem with the wedding dress search-- how can someone who wears a size 2 imagine how the look in a dress that is a size 12. I hated Davids Bridal too. I had to get a bm dress there a year ago and the people are so obnoxious. I tried on a couple of wedding dresses there but there is no way I could take the dress home with me on the spot, between my dog, cat and nephew something would definitely happen to it in my house. Good luck with the search.
I made progress today. I just ordered my save the date cards, so hopefully I will get them by next week so that I can get them sent out. I also emailed a dj, and tomorrow it is onto bm dress shopping- which I am sure will be a nightmare.

YAY!! Dcbride- you ordered the save the dates. Where did you get them?? BM shopping wasn't as bad as I thought. Actually, my sister is so disappointed she didn't get to try on more dresses. the first one they tried on was it. All 8 girls (who have very diffy body shapes) agreed. It'll be fun, you'll see. I just ordered my Save the Dates too - tell me, what needs to go in them? I want to include all hotel info (cards from the hotel that have reserved dates, directions, address etc), Airport info....what else?
For example, some of my relatives from TX would not know that flying into NEwark is NOT a good idea since the wedding is in Port Jeff. I would want to tell them that Islip is the best bet, followed by LGA and JFK, and Newark only if you HAVE to. Anyone have STD templates I can borrow? I already have the cards, I'm really looking more for the inserts and stuffers to go along with the card....

Curly-good morning When are you attempting to go dress shopping again. I wnet w/ a pic that I thought was the dress I wanted and when I got there I hated the way it looked on me-I looked all scrawny and invisible. My prob was all the samples were huge on me so it was hard to tell if anything looked right because they had to bunch everything up w/ pins and clips. Nobody wins in this world So about this GTG-about when/where are we looking? I'm already getting excited. Would it be w/out FH's again-cuz unless there lots of beer and no wedding talk, Rob won't go!

Good Morning Dani Well, I have an appt. on Monday with Bridal Garden in Bethpage. I can only hope this experience is better. At least you looked invisible because trust me.....NO ONE COULD MISS ME in those dresses, LOL!!!!

I ordered them from invitationoutlet.com. FI and I are not very photogenic so the last thing we want is our faces on magnets-- I am sure noone else would want them either so we just got these (they're not magnets):
Marisa- I'm pretty flexible with the date too. As long as I know in advance, it's good for me

I am flexible with dates too. The only thing FI hates more than wedding planning is getting together with people to talk about wedding planning, so he would not like to go to the Sept GTG.
