I really need to settle a (FUN) arguement between me and my FH.
I see cops all the time wearing wedding rings but he says NO ONE wears them at his job. My dad didn't wear his at all, but he recently told me that it was all a scam and not to believe that they shouldn't wear their rings (so did my mom).
I need to know... are your guys wearing their rings at work?

Yes... my FH will definitely be wearing his ring to work. Why wouldn't he? Why spend the money for him to not even wear it?
My FSIL's husband didn't wear his to work, but that's because at the time, he worked for the water authority digging holes. But since he became a cop, he wears his all the time. As it should be!

Yes, Yes, Yes. FH has NEVER worn a ring before but will be wearing his wedding band. We're actually getting 2 for him, a nice one (w/ diamonds) and a work one (plain band).
FH's brother (also a cop) did the same thing.
Also, being a former cop, I know TONS of guys (and girls) who wear their wedding bands, tho it may be just a plain one.

Not many cops I know wear their wedding rings to work. They work with a lot of low lifes who I would rather not know that they have a wife and kids. God forbid some crazy person comes after a cop who has arrested them.

Re: Calling All Cop's Wives and Fiance's
I think it depends on where he is a cop and whether or not he is on patrol. Actually when I went to the Woodlands to check the place out the woman there mentioned how her brother wore his ring to work and got into a foot race where he had to jump a fence and his ring got caught on the wire and literally ripped his finger off. When she told this story my FH couldnt believe it because he said he always hears this story on the job but thought it was a scam so the guys who didnt want to wear their rings didnt have to--but this woman confirmed that it was actually her brother!!!!
ETA-- I just asked my fiance and he said MOST of the guys at work wear the rings!!!!

I've heard a similar story about someone in the FDNY who got their ring caught on a ladder (in part of my FH's reasoning why he will not be wearing his ring to work).

Re: Calling All Cop's Wives and Fiance's
FH and I have discussed this before. He works in a bad area. Many of his married friends do not wear their rings b/c there have been times when the perps they arrest have threatened the cops families. Many do not want the perps to know that they even have a family or are married. FH has heard perps make comments about guy's wives when they see them wearing rings and that can create a larger problem.
I trust FH and I know when he is working he is working. If he chooses to wear his ring, that is fine, if he chooses not to wear his band that is fine as well. He is not taking it off to be offensive or rude in anyway to you, he is doing it for our safety.

My fiance and i are both cops and we talked about wearing the wedding rings to work. He wants to wear his but I never wear my engagement ring on the street it's true you never know what's going to happen. I know married men on the job that never wear their ring to work and are great husbands. It really is what you feel is right. there is always that risk but with our job there is always a risk. I won't be hurt plus some people don't want these perps knowing anything about their personal lives.

Re: Calling All Cop's Wives and Fiance's
my FH is a rookie in NYPD--and while i would like for him to always wear the band when we get married....i am okay with him not wearing it, only because when you are out there on patrol you just don't want to advertise thta you are married and a family man. plus he's afraid he would mark and scratch it all up. i have a feeling he might at first wear it a lot--to make me happy--and then only wear it when he's not on the job.
btw--it's kind of 50/50 at his precinct--he does see a lot of cops wearing the band...but many don't who are married as well.

Re: Calling All Cop's Wives and Fiance's
Thanks girls for your opinions!! I see that it's 50/50!!!
I also appreciate the female cop input here too!!!!!
I don't have a prob with him not wearing it at work.... but I do have a prob with him not wearing it when off duty.... that's another story!!!
so i guess neither of us is right!!!

I don't think either one of you are wrong . It is all a matter of opinion. I am sure he is not trying to offend you. personally I don't even wear a watch everything get broken and messed up too. But you can tell him you win ..

Although FI isn't a cop, he's an ADA and his boss recommended that the men not wear their wedding rings to court. FI says that most of the cops he meets with don't wear one either. We agreed that he'd wear the ring on a chain around his neck (under his shirt) while in court. THat could be a good solution for you too! I'm going to make the chain part of his wedding gift:)

My FI works in the worst neighborhood and everyone there told him not to for this very reason. If they see that you are married, they might kill you for fun or something.

Cop are really not suppost to wear chains it gives perps something to grab onto.. The ADA though, that's a really good idea out of sight but not out of mind..
