What are you doing to make your wedding 'Irish'???
I am Irish, born in Dublin, but marrying an American.
I have an Irish band to play at the reception, who will play all the traditional favorites.
And I have tons of Irish born guests.
Other than that I am not really doing much Irish but I want to incorporate more.
I thought about Irish chocolates for a wedding favor but they are too costly as it turns out.
I also wanted to do a traditional Irish wedding cake as a groom's cake but we cannot locate one (Irish wedding cakes are dense fruit cakes iced in white icing).
I also am considering a bagpiper but again, hesitate because of extra cost.
ANY IDEAS for other ways to make a wedding IRISH???

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!
you can probably find a reasonably priced bagpiper.. Contact Iona College and Manhattan College. They both have bagpipe bands. I went to Iona :) Also, maybe consider some Irish dancers. You can incorporate some Irish candy. what about having a bowl on each table of Irish rose candies? I love them. oh and Irish coffees during dessert. Yum! This is making me realize that I need to incorporate some more Irish stuff in my wedding too. Good Luck.
edit oh and you can probably find an irish fruit cake. I see you are in Westchester.... Try Moorleys on Yonkers Ave. in Yonkers.

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!
i'm 50% irish and FH and 100% italian.
our entire ceremony is irish music (the irish wedding song, lady of knock, etc) song by an irish folk group.
at the reception i'm playing with the idea of having a few of my friends irish step dance during the first or second course.

Hi! I'm the yankee and DH is from Dublin so we're similar to you! I I had a pipe and drum (Emerald Society) escort for DH and his boys -- they walked from our house to the Church, it was really nice, cars on the street were beeping and honking and people clapped as they walked by... The venue was pretty Celtic looking too, its a castle in W'chester and the design is based on Kinsale if I remember correctly!
DH's ring was also bought in Dublin, its a design from the Book of Kells (aaargh no pic on this pc tho)!!
*Also you should check out NIFHEIM's review she had a TON of Irish touches, there might be something you can incorporate there!!!! Nifheim's review

I am was born in Smithtown, NY but am 100% Irish. FH is not. I tried for the bagpiper but it was $300 Irish coffee will be served for sure. Mom has the florist incorporating bells of ireland flowers. I asked our DJ to play some Irish music. I believe in the bronx there is a neighborhood referred to as little Ireland - my friend lived there not too long ago for the Irish community - check that area for your cakes

I am indian, FH is Irish (born and raised in Dublin). We are having an indian wedding ceremony but will incorporate some Irish traditions such as:
- Bagpipers when FH walks in - Celtic harp player during cocktail hour - Irish coffee/Bailey's coffee with dessert - Our favors are key chains with four leaf clovers inside
I want to do something Irish for the placecards and table numbers but also want those to match the programs... and the programs are Indian since it's a traditional indian ceremony!
thanks for the mention hehehe. Yea i had a lot of little touches since my main theme was of ireland and more importantly their colors. I had dancers, pipers, ice sculpture, shamrocks on the ch tables (this was a freebe though left over from a wedding the night before), I had old irish postcards printed as our sign in tags for our sign in tree, i had gaelic saying's with english translations on items, poems about ireland in my program, table cards and finally - check out my review.

Maybe a nice Irish Favor. I actually have a set of the rings that go around the wine glasses and they are irish themed

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!
Girls - Anyone who can FM me their bagpiper info i'd be SOOO Grateful. I've contacted the ones listed on this site but haven't gotten any response.
also - is anyone having the bagpiper lead you OUT of the church as part of the recessional. walking down the aisle in front of you? Thats what I've always envisioned since i was little
all of these ideas are great! its hard to come up with 'irish' things aside from the symbols of the country. geez for being known as a superstitious and religious lot - we don't really have a lot of 'different' customs do we :)

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!
i'm only 1/4 Irish - but i married a 100% Irishman.. :)
We got Irish wedding bands (ordered from a jeweler in Ireland, through a jeweler in PA). (the pic is BOTH of our bands)
One of our cake toppers had little shamrocks on it (nothing major - but we LOVED it).
Our ceremony had the Irish Wedding Blessing in it.
we had a bagpiper at the church (emerald society, nyc dept. of sanitation) and an irish/american band (husband is 100% irish and about 30% of people attending were irish or of irish decent and I had about 10 guests from ireland) and I thought that was enough, but that's also because i'm not irish

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!
My FH is born and raised in that little area up in the Bronx known as 'little Ireland.' The area is called Woodlawn and also incorporates the lower section of Yonkers. Its a beautiful area and def. feels like your in Ireland. There are plenty of Irish owned bakeries and shops to do some browsing for your wedding. The town main roads where all the store fronts are are called Kathona and McLean Ave. Morleys on Yonkers Ave is own by a wonderful family - I know them personally. Id say check it out Mrs Morley always has something up her sleeve but I will say there store is really more of a gorcery store vs a bakery. Map quest or Yahoo maps will get you there. I love in Freeport and its a 45 min ride - God knows I can do the drive blindfolded!!! LOL Goodluck
