Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!

I'm British/Irish and FH is Irish/Scottish/Norwegian.

He and the groomsmen will be wearing kilts and we'll have a bagpiper (if he ever gets off his tush and arranges it!). We're thinking of getting a handkercheif of his tartan for him to give to me (Scottish trad. - the groom would rip off a piece of his kilt/tartan and offer it to the bride). We'll also have some traditional/non traditional music at the reception (dropkick murphy's, van morrison, etc.).

I also wanted to do a traditional Irish wedding cake as a groom's cake but we cannot locate one (Irish wedding cakes are dense fruit cakes iced in white icing).

My mum is bugging me to get one of these (family from UK can bring it over with them. I'm not a fan of them at all - never liked them for some reason. Do you have any family coming for the wedding that could bring a small one?

Girls - Anyone who can FM me their bagpiper info i'd be SOOO Grateful. I've contacted the ones listed on this site but haven't gotten any response.

Arrgh! Me too. FH says he 'knows' someone (more like a friend of a friend of an acquaintance) and I'm afraid if I don't do something we won't have one. Some of the ones on here are out of our budget

My parents have been in Ireland twice in the past 6 weeks but the cake shop they used to get irish wedding cake from is closed, and they won't be going again til after the wedding, so it's a no-go. I did book the bagpiper though so at least I will have that!

I emailed Emerald Society again and they totally responded ASAP, must have been something wrong with my first email. FM me if you want the info and I will look it up for you, or just google the website.

Ahh! Thanks - I'll check it out!

And I just thought of another thing - Fehn's Cake and Cookie Shop in Seaford does Irish Soda Bread favors!

Ahhh fruit cake - i bake one amazing guinness fruit cake! I would of loved to have done that but many people hate the fruit cake.

I did bake scones and put it in the OOT bags, i had guinness fruit scones and raisin and brown wheat scones. People like that.

FH is Irish and we're including handfasting in the ceremony as well as the Irish wedding bells.

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!

Our wedding bands were made in Ireland and FH's has claddaghs and celtic knots going all the way around.

Our unity candle has an Irish Love Knot on it.

We'll have a single bag-piper (my parent's next door neighbor) playing outside the church after the ceremony.

There will be plenty of Guinness on hand... and Boddingtons I think.

The bridal party is walking into a Dropkick Murphy's song.

We'll have some Irish rebel music (very wedding-y, I know) playing towards the end of the night.

Our programs have 'A Ghra Mo Chroi' on the front of it.

There will be corned beef and cabbage at the CH (I know that is totally NOT something that is popular in Ireland... it's more Irish American... but still so YUMMY!).

Re: Calling all IRISH brides!!!!!

I am of irish decent and my husband is of italian decent. I tried to incorporate little subtle things without going over the top.

I had a bagpiper outside of the church, I had them pay the Celtic Ave Maria. The biggest hit I had..was the table names. I did the counties of Ireland for my said and cities in Italy for his side. My family loved it. They fought a little over which county they were sitting at and some swamped pictures frames. I did 8x10 frames that had the county name and a picture of something from the county. You could have an irish and american flag at the reception card table. Place the irish wedding blessing on the table, or I did tic tacs, you could make lables with either an irish symbol or poem on it.

You don't need to go crazy, you already have band. Little inexpensive touches are good.

Let me know if you want me to email you the table names. I have no problem sharing.
