Calling all lawyers - or anyone else who might know!

Calling all lawyers - or anyone else who might know!

Are any of you familiar with the downtown Brooklyn courts? One of my student advocates with the public interest program I coordinate was asking what the parking situation is like down there, if she would have a place to park. She is going to Brooklyn Family Court around 12:30 pm. Would appreciate if anyone knows!

Yes, I'm very familiar with the area and the parking there.

The best lot to park for 320 Jay St (or 340 Jay since they're actually in the same building) is the park fast that's across the street and two blocks down on Jay St -- it's on Jay St on the other side of Tillary.

lemme see if I can get a map for you.

You can also park in the Marriott building that's right next door but it's $25 for the day. The place I'm telling you about is only $15 (or at least it was last year when I would sometimes park there).

Another possible place to park is in the Brooklyn Law School dorm parking lot (it's open to the public) but at that hour entering you'd end up paying a lot more. I like it because it's affiliated with the law school so it just feels safer to me.

Thank you SO much, the student will be so relieved. She's nervous enough with it being her first time in court. Thanks Sandra!!

Glad to help!

Downtown Brooklyn is a pain to navigate when you're new to the area, so I suggest she get there kinda early. There's a Starbucks across the street from the courthouse she can hang out at (right by PolyTech) if she's early.

I graduated from Brooklyn Law and used to drive to classes. I know all the parking garages in the area..If she doesn't mind taking a walk, the cheapest parking garage is located on Livingston Street at the corner of Bond St and Livingston - across from Dunkin Donuts, on the corner of IHOP. Parking is $ 8 for about 2 hours, $15 for the entire day.

I'd actually hop on the 67 bus from there (across the street from that lot) and it drops you directly across the street from the courthouse (right in front of the starbucks actually). It's like a 15 minute walk, though, which is why I didn't do it very often. I once picked up a rental car from the Enterprise that's in that same building, though, which was convenient enough.

I remember when that lot was only $9 for the entire day! I think you had to enter before 9 am for that price.

I used to just drive in really early and try to find street parking in Brooklyn Heights. If it got closer to 8:30 am and I just wanted to be at work already, I'd park in the lot I sent you the link to on Jay past Tillary. I used to get really lucky sometimes and get free street parking right near Cranberry's Coffee Shop. Loved that place!
