Calling all Lent Brides............

Calling all Lent Brides............

My church just called to tell me that I cannot decorate the church with my own flowers. I can order pieces thru them for the Blessed Mother and the Blessed Sacrement. The altar will be decorated in purple and white in honor of Easter.

Does this mean that my bouquets and all will have to be purple and white?

Anyone have any advice and or pics?

Thanks

Uh Oh. You are getting married the same day as me. So far I haven't heard anything about what I can and can't decorate with. My flowers are lavendar and yellow roses which would fit right in if they tell me we can only have purple and white.

Angie, do you have a pic? Lavendar and yellow sound pretty.

Your boquets can be whatever color you want them to be, it does not have to match what the church is doing. Each church decorates a little differently for Lent, and your particular church uses purple/white flowers - traditional Lenten colors.

I don't think B-Q matters. but ultimately ask the church.

No, I don't have a pic. When I went to the florist, I saw those colors in a display that was made up already and I loved them because they matched so beautifully with the color of the BM dresses (celedon). They are doing lavendar and yellow roses with green and purple 'fillers'. If I get a picture in the near future I will post if for you.

I got married during lent this year and my colors didn't match the purple at all!! Don't worry about it. I just did all white for church (Pew Bows, Altar Flowers). My church did not tell me I couldn't decorate though. I had pink tulip boo-k's for the girls who were wearing celedon dresses....so believe me nothing matched in the church! But in the pics you can hardly see the purple altar/tapestries).

I getting married during what the Priest called Pentacost (bad catholic that I am, I don't remember what that is) but the alter will be decorated in all red and white flowers. It totally won't match my BM's in their light blue dresses, but I don't want to plan my colors around red.
I think I can do minimal decorations, but there will already be flowers so I'm not going to spend the $$ on more that will clash with the altar flowers.
It'll still look pretty. You can use whatever colors you want, except maybe on the altar. That's where some of the restrictions come in.

honey BOQ can be your choice of colors. My BF got marrried during lent and it was all good.

I never really thought about that. We can't have any alter flowers in our church. Maybe I should stick with purple though.

I got married during Lent and didn't have any altar flowers. My Church said that I could but I figured no one would notice so I decided not to have any. I don't think you need to match your bouquets to the altar flowers. The girls will probably be in a pew and you and your MOH will only be in church on the altar for a short time anyway. I would not even worry about matching them.

My church said I can do whatever I want. Luckily. I am decorating the altar with 2 high column arrangements that will be brought to the reception. The flowers will coordinate with the flowers we are using for our CPs and Bo-ks.

Well I have the same problem too. The priest said I may bring in flowers, and decorate, but I have to take them with me, and they cannot be left in the church. So I will have 2 small altar vases, and put them in the trunk of the limo for the reception. (I don't think the florst will hang around for 2 peices)
As far as colors, I think you can have whatever you want they didnt tell me I needed specific colors!

I'm just glad to see that there are actually Catholic Churches that will perform ceremonies during Lent. This has been a major concern of mine since the date we sort of picked is during Lent and I havent been able to talk to a Priest in my Parish about this.

White-wolf, which church are you talking about? My parish wouldn't perform ceremonies during lent either, and we had a heck of a time finding a church that would (bc we weren't parish members). The priest was sooooo nasty to me that I'm glad I'm not getting married there now....
I am getting married at Holy Name of Mary, and they were super nice about it, and are even letting me put flowers on the altar if I want to. They said nothing about colors, and I'm sure you can go with anything you want!

ThreeTwenty...I havent even spoken to the Priest yet. I've left messages and we've been playing phone tag. I dont know yet if they will do it; but I am keeping my fingers crossed b/c the date I want falls on a holiday weekend and most people wont have to work the next day. The Church I am looking into is the Church of the Good Shepard in Manhattan. I have been a member for about 3-4 years. I also grew up going to another Parish nearby which I may also look into if the other doesnt work out. If not, I may need to change my date. It wouldnt be the end of the world
