We are finally getting around to our engagement party and we want to do something on the beach. Does anyone know of any inexpensive places (not like a catering hall or anything, something very casual, like a pavillion or something) that we can rent or reserve for the day to throw a beach party or luau. I'm not picky about location as to where it is on Long Island but it has to be on Long Island. Thanks ladies!

I don't know if you can rent it out, but in Lindenhurst, they just re-did Venetian Shores, it is really nice, they have music at nights on the weekends, there is a new kiddy water park...right in the beach, it is very nice, sounds like a good fit...

I've been to parties at Tobay and Gilgo beaches. Try contacting them or the Town of Babylon and the Town of Oyster Bay. You could try Jones Beach too.

What about Captree Boat Basin? I've seen BBQs there.

Lessings has an establishment I believe at the Pavillion at Sunken Meadow.
Lots of other town beaches have the facilities for barbeques. It probably is best to start with state parks and places in your town (a lot of towns require you be a resident). A lot of these places book up early in the year (I know permits in the town of Huntington go on sale in January and quite a few people are there on the first day of sales).

What about the mushrooms in Long Beach? From what you described, that might be perfect for you! I don't know what their residency requirements are, though...

I heard about brides doing a beach wedding in Bayville.
I think Angnick is doing that. Not sure!
Maybe you can send her a FM.

Awesome tips guys! I live in Town of Babylon so I'm definitely going to check out Venetian. But I'm going to look into all of those suggestions.
Does anyone know anything about renting the area by the lighthouse on Fire Island?

I think that if you are a resident of the town of Hempstead then you can get a permit for 'Mushroom Park'. That's on the beach in Lido Beach/ the Point Lookout area.

Crab Meadow Beach, in Northport, has a restaurant (La Casa Cafe) and it also has an area like a pavilion with picnic tables...

You know, I know you said not a catering place but Gurney's Inn in Montauk will do a bonfire for like 1000.00. A little pricey but a bonfire on the beach? Awesome. they will also clean it all up for you and I think they provide drinks and hor d'oeuvres. Check out their website. I'm pretty sure that this is what we're doing for our rehearsal dinner. The Inn at Quogue also does clambakes on the beach. Sorry, I don't know any prices but I looked at them for my reception and I remember the rep teling me about it.

Lido Beach has Mushroom Park which are these pavilions that look like mushrooms. You have to reserve it and pay a town fee. Its all part of Town of Hempstead. They are on the beach and you can walk to the ocean but you can't see it from the pavillions. One or two of the mushrooms have glass on the perimeter if you want to be enclosed. You have to probably leave at dusk.

Oh yes....it's perfect. I am not sure if the restaurant (great food!) has a private room.

Thanks for the idea! I'll have to look into it. I'm trying to do this as inexpensively as possible.
But I did call about the Mushrooms and they are totally booked all through the summer except for a few on Labor Day. He told me you have to book for summer around Jan. 1st. Whoooopsie! That's what happens when you plan last minute! Ya snooze, ya lose!!!!
