I'm tempted to go ball gownish but at the same point something with a little more flow to it. I totally need to be comfortable at my reception.

Re: Calling all Plus size brides
RK Bridal has a LARGE selection of dresses to try on from all designers. Most bridal places do not carry larger sizes that you are able to try on and some won't even let you try. One place told me I could hang it from my neck - WHAT??? How could you buy your wedding gown without trying it on.
I got my a-line halter top dress at Lillette's. When I got there I told the sales girl, 'I know I know I am not going to be able to try on dresses here' and she said, well we sure will try and I was able to try on every dress I picked out.
They were very helpful and accomodating.

Re: Calling all Plus size brides
Davids bridal had the most dresses that I tried on.. pictures are in my album
But the dress i'm getting is a jasmine and I am getting it from Lillettes in Bellmore!
The Jasmine dresses have different zippers for all different sizes so no matter what size you are, you can fit into them!
Good Luck!

Alfred Angelo
they have quite a few dresses that are specifically plus size and they emphasize that
i went to paradise bridal and tried on a lot of dresses and they were all able to fit (not all of them zippered up, but i did get them on)

Re: Calling all Plus size brides
i went to david's because i knew they had great prices, but most of all because i knew they had a large plus-size collection to try on....i didn't want to get suicidal trying to fit my fat *** into size 10 samples and have to imagine what it would look like in my size, i def. rec going there!
ETA: mine is an a-line, if ur pear shaped a defined waist is best, tho

I think it depends on your shape. I'm Plus size, but curvy/hourglass. I find that A-line and ballgowns were flattering on me. I really like the way fitted bodices emphasize my waist, and then I need something that is going to be big and non-clingy in the hip area, so definitely not mermaid or trumpet skirt styles.

Re: Calling all Plus size brides
I like to say I'm Xmas tree shaped. I'm thinner on top get wider as you go down and my legs are skinny tree trunks. It's a friggin pain to go shopping. I'm seeing a lot of cinched waist to the side but I'm just UGH. I'm worried empire might draw too much attention to my middle.

Re: Calling all Plus size brides
I'm liking what Ive seen in Alfred Angelo and I know Rk bridal has the plus sizes to try on. So far I like styles 2084, 2106 and 2100. Davids Bridal I'm scared of. I've read numerous horror stories.

I'm an apple shape and my dress is an Empire. The lady also had me try on (which surprised me ) dropped waist dresses which surprisingly looked pretty good!
Because of my shape, I was afraid I was going to look like a big snowball in any dress. I was pleasantly surprised that I looked pretty decent in all of them! Don't be afraid, just try on all styles and you'll be surprised!

I didn't find this to be true AT ALL. I went to various stores and tried on many different shapes and silhouettes in plus size. No one ever asked me to hang a dress around my neck ... ? I actually had many dresses that I liked from different designers but I felt most comfortable with my Maggie Sottero corset dress.
Good luck to you!

I would tell them your street size. From certain designers, the bridal size is larger, so a bridla 10 is really a six

Re: Calling all Plus size brides
I was just at Bridal Elegance in Dix Hills and they have TONS of plus-sized samples to try on. The lady told me she tries to get in as many as possible because she knows how hard it is for girls to find sample sizes they can actually get into. I would recommend going there.
