Calling all teachers

Calling all teachers

Hi everyone...I need your help. I'm graduating with my Master's in Elementary Education next month and need a job probably starting after Xmas break. I'm student teaching now in Tribeca, but I'll pretty much take a job anywhere that's convenient for me to travel to (I live in Manhattan). Is anyone anticipating any openings in their school any time soon? Any info would be GREATLY appreciated. I guess I'm looking for either a K-5 position or some sort of permanant sub position.
Thanks so much for your help.

Re: Calling all teachers

My best advice is to keep looking in the Sunday NY TIMES.

Good Luck!!!!

I don't know of anything right now, but I second checking The Times, like Diane said. Good luck, and I'll definitely let you know if I hear of any positions.

Re: Calling all teachers

well good luck in your search. I just have to vent a bit on this subject....I have always drempt of someday becoming a teacher. I majored in communications in college and I can't get anywhere!!!! I've had my credits evaluated, I've been fingerprinted, I've taken and passed the LAST and I'm scheduled for the ATS-W in March. However, I need education credits and classroom experience and I'm trying to find a program that will help me do both in the most efficient and cheapest way!! It's impossible!! I've applied to fellows programs with no avail! I don't understand why if NYC needs so many teachers, they are making this sooo immposible! They are recruiting people from other states and countries even!!!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this any easier???

Re: Calling all teachers

are you interested on teaching on long island? if so, you need to send your resume & cover letter to every school district that you're interested in, regardless of any current openings they may have. once they have you on file, they'll (hopefully) call you when something comes up. you may also want to get on a substitute teacher list. good luck metphan!
send me your resume again, ok?
i'll call you later.
