Camcorders

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a camcorder. My sister gave us 500.00 as a combined wedding/1st anniversary gift to put towards a camcorder.

I am so lost when it comes to them. I know that they have the ones now for dvd but I dont want to spend too much more than the 500 that she already so generously gave us.
