camp traditions...

so now that ive been a camp counselor for almost 2 weeks... lets share what our favorite summer camp (or just summer in general) traditions are...

mine.. is lanyard!... or boondoggle, for you upstaters.

im currently working on a light and dark blue simple box/barrel stitch... but my next one is gonna be twisted bubblegum!

who else remembers this favorite pastime?

Hehe. That was one of them, we made them with the embroidery/needlepoint thread and they were 'friendship bracelets' -- we all had like 30 and they got filthy but we'd never take those darn things off for the entire Summer!!!

I am ashamed to say, another tradition was 'SLAM Books.' I went to a semi-travel camp, and now realize we were the biggest bunch of brats ever. It was fun at the time, but man, we were RUTHLESS in those books and it was probably horrible. I hope no one saved any!!! Jeez.

Now you got me wanting to go to the craft store and buying thread to make these! I used to love making these! I had a kit and everything that held the thread.

I still have that kit. I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it! Fun times!

Those are the ones!!!! I still remember how to do it, and when we were on trips, we'd safety pin it to the back of the seat in front of us and work our little butts off to race to the finish!

Oh my God! This is horribly embarrassing but I'll tell my story anyway. I never went to real camp but I did go to Girl Scout camp for a weekend.... I think I was about 8 years old. Anyway, I was so nervous about changing in front of the other girls that I stayed in the same clothes (underwear included) all weekend! My mom was cracking up about this when I got home. Isn't that gross?

Oh man I used to love lanyard! I loved the barrel stitch and I made my mom a snake once that she kept for like 10 years until it fell apart from heavy use on her keychain.
