We can select our cake from Campbells in Brentwood or Black Forest in Lindenhurst. Any pros/cons for either?
Should we meet with both and then decide? Thanks!
Also, how soon before the wedding are we supposed to meet with the baker and decide on a cake?

I would say meet with both.
See what they can do for you and have an open mind in case you dont know what you want.
If you DO know what you want (or an idea) then see how each can make the vision come alive.
Good luck!

I got my cake from Campbells and it was sooo good. And the design was exactly what I asked for. We had a 4 tier square cake with alternating layers of chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and yellow cake with canoli filling. I heard Black Forest was great too, but that wasn't an option for us. We were very happy with Campbells. I would recommend you go to both and taste the cakes and see what they will do for you before you decide!
Good luck!

Omg, that's such a tough decision! meet with both. they are two of my favorite bakeries... (and even though I live a relatively close to campbells) I haven't had a campbells cake in at least 7 years... we used black forest for our eparty, and my 25th birthday (and FFILs surprise 60th a few years ago, and like every other family party for the last 54580734 years)... everyone LOVED our cake at our eparty... for my birthday my mother ordered the same exact cake, same cake, filling, icing, etc. but it didn't taste nearly as good... but that could be because my expectations were through the roof
but yea, I'd do a tasting at both... but I think you might like campbells a little better.

You should meet approx 2 months before your wedding - to do taste testing. Then come up with what you want, design, etc.
We went to Campbell's & had a 4 tier round cake & gave them a pic of a seashell cake that we wanted for our wedding - they did an amazing job w/ it.
Going from the top down: top tier: Van cake w/ strawberry mousse 2nd tier: Choc cake w/ orange mousse 3rd tier: red velvet cake w/ cream cheese filling bottom tier: Van cake w/ raspberry mousse
Here is our pic idea & how the actual cake came out:
Does Campbell's have a website that anyone knows about?
I know Black Forest has one but I can't seem to find one for Campbell's.

I don't think we get a choice at CLM. I think they only use Campbell's now.

Well, technically yes - your only choice is Campbells. But if you really want to bring in your own cake it is extra $$ to do that.
We decided to go for tatse testing 1st - & honestly Campbells was so good we just felt why spend another $450 for a cake from somewhere else when the one we would get from Campbells was already included w/ pp price at CLM?
We did pay an extra $50 for our cake b/c we wanted a specific seashell design....but it was SO worth it IMHO

Thanks everyone! I'll have to make an appt in a couple of months and see what each bakery has to offer.
Future JOC, yes, we do have the same reception hall. Vicki told me she prefers BF, but I have heard they can be VERY rude there. I'll have to see what my own experience is!

We used Campbells and they were fabulous...our cake was by far the best wedding cake we have ever had! OUr DOC told us she never eats wedding cake but she ate the entire piece of ours! IT was so moist and delicious! We have started ordering cakes from Campbells because of how good it was...people STILL mention it! It was red velvet
