can a bridal shower NOT be 'boring?'

can a bridal shower NOT be 'boring?'

OK, I've been a bridesmaid more times than I can count, and have been to many a shower... now it's finally my turn! Since I am having a non-traditional wedding and have no BP, my mom will be planning the shower with my input.

Some shower games are cute and fun, but I think I'm gonna feel awkward sitting in a chair and opening presents for an hour straight while people ooh and ahh. As a guest, I never get that into it!

I would like to try something 'different' for my shower but I'm stumped!! Of course my mom is going to want the traditional elements (ie. the ooh-ing and aah-ing).

Anything you ladies have done or seen doen in the past to make a shower unique and fun for guests besides Bridal Bingo and that type of thing?? Thanks!

we're thinking themed showers....
(ie a holiday or a season...
with favors, invites and decorations to match...)
also, i've heard about showers where they involve all the guests and talk about the couple...exchange stories and play games that test the guests knowledge about the couple.
i'm with you on showers. i want my turn, but i'd like something with a bit more jazz...

Toilet Paper Bride. You separate the women in 3 groups of four. If you want more groups, you can have them. YOu give each group two rolls of Toilet paper and one volunteer from the group has to be the bride and the rest are the bridesmaids. The bridesmaids has to make the bride's dress from Toilet paper with a time limit..hmm mayber 5 minutes. YOu would pick the winner of the best bride. WE did it at my shower and it was so hilarious!! WE could not stop laughing! We had brides of all ages!! The Group who wins...gets prizes. So try to make your groups small.

Ciminok-- Thanks! I actually organized one of those 'newlywed game' styling things for Lorimari's shower! I thought it was really funny! We got to know the couple a lil more.

Theme shower.. definitely an idea! Thanks

How about dragging your FH into the mix and having a Jack and Jill shower

I have never been before either, but I think his friends come too. I think it is co-ed overall. I say let him create a small power tool registry at Sears, too

Why should you suffer alone when you will BOTH be benefitting from the gifts?

If there is alcohol, it can be fun, JK. I went to a Jack and Jill shower it was fun.

I went to a shower where everyone was sent a recipe card and then we all brought it back to put in the card file. That I thought was a different Idea.

I hate when the bride opens the wishing well gifts as well. I always thought the brides open them at home???

I went to a shower with the recipe card thing....seh ended up with a huge cookbook of family favorites!! It was so cool!! I'm thinking of taking a break during the opening...walk around to say hi to everyone....chat a bit. I was also thinking of how the 'wish bowl' thing might be nice for the shower....on the table have scraps of paper for people to give advice whether it be well wishes, or how to spice the marriage up...and then it can be used in a book! You can also put table cameras for the shower.

I went to one shower that was hilarious!!! As the guests all walked in, we were each given a little cheap plastic clothes pin to wear, and we were given instructions on how to play. For the duration of the party, we were not allowed to say the word wedding, marriage, or the groom's name. If we said it, whoever we were talking to (if they realized we said one of the words) was allowed to take a pin from us, and we were allowed to take one from anyone else who slipped. Some of us were walking around with none, while some had like 10 pins. It was a really wild and competitive group. I never had so much fun at a shower.

At my sis's shower we played TP the Bride we mixed it up and had some old aunts with the brides maids it was a lot of fun. We also played 'Pass the Teddy' There was a wrapped box and who ever had it when say the music stopped had to go into the bathroom and put it on and model.... it was a teddy bear.

at a friend's we played a game where her sister had her FH answere questions inadvanvce, and then we had to bet how many the bride would get, and ten they sake her the questions ( Like what is his middle name, favorite food, where was your first kiss)
And the closest guesser one a prize. That was fun & not too cheesy.
It think you should open the gifts secret santa style--not tags, guess who its from.

or turn Bridal bingo into a drinking game, but that' probably won't go over to well with some people. . .

Also, if people brought gifts form peopel not attending, you could not open those if the gift opening takes too long.

I went to to a really small shower ( 10 People-bride getting married in FL, mostly co-workers here) and we went for high tea & attempted to read our tea leaves.

The only boring shower I've been to was my FSILs. That's because it was 100 women sitting around watching her open presents.

That was the first time I'd ever been to a shower like that, only about 3 years ago.

In my family, we've always done CO-ed showers, or Jack & Jill's or what ever you call them. Basically, the first hour or two is women only. They play their bridal games, etc and then the men join in and it becomes a 'real' party and everyone dances, drinks and celebrates. There is positively NO sitting there opening gifts (IMO, THE most horrible thing you can do to your guests ). It's just a party. This how my shower will be (I presume) and I think I would die of boredom and embarassment if they threw me a shower where I just had to sit there and open gifts in front of people.

A family friend of our is holding her daughters shower and instructed everyone not to wrap the gifts in paper but to wrap them in clear celephane (sp?) and she is setting up a table to display all the gifts on so the bride and guest can walk up and down and see all the gifts and not have to open everything for hours also there isnt a chance for cards to get lost. Honestly I am not too sure if I like the idea or not.

I did the receipe cards for my sister and it was funny to see the comedians in the family. One gave addresses and phone #'s to local bars and resturants and another direction to make kraft mac and cheese with a box of it. If was cute and she got some great receipes.
Ps there is a web site that sells the cards and a laminated book to put the cards in. I think i got everything under $20.
