Hi, I am a (former) Jewish bride and in order to help answer your question I would need to know what the rose and hand ceremony was in the first place. Also, the rabbi marrying you will give you the best answer, which will be what he will allow or not allow.

I think that you can do anything you wish... How open is your rabbi?? That would be a better question for him or her.

I liked the hand ceremony too, DH thought our ceremony was too long anyway. So I had my mom read it as sort of a 'toast' before our dance. He didn't even know!
Its one way to get around the rabbi if he doesn't allow it at the ceremony. Have someone read it at the reception.
