Can anyone else not able to complete the job???

I can never seem to put it all together when I decorate! I have great furniture...nicely painted room, but when it comes to accessorizing and pulling it all together I stink! For some reason I can never pull it all together...anyone else have this problem? What should I do? I can't afford an interior designer...

Re: Can anyone else not able to complete the job???

I find looking in design magazines really helps. I also really like looking in cataloges like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel since my taste is very similar to their design.

Re: Can anyone else not able to complete the job???

I'm an interior designer, and I find that looking in magazines, to see what looks nice in a space does help. If your room has a certain look, find a similar look in a magazine, and zero in on the types of fabric, not just color, but texture is very important. It is a good idea to use contrasting textures, not all the same feel.

Look at what is displayed. What kind of metal is it? is it distressed wood? Take note of these things, rip them out of magazines, use post its, make files, etc. That way when you go to a store, you will know what you are looking for. Oh, and always look at scale. If your room has large scale pieces, you may want to contrast the scale of lets say, light fixtures, or play up the large scale by choosing more fuller looking lighting and accessories. I hope this makes sence.

Good luck!

Re: Can anyone else not able to complete the job???

I basically found a few pictures from magazines that I really liked and took ideas from there.

I also found watching HGTV & TLC helps a lot, but I just enjoy watching those shows, I picked up a lot of tips there too.

Why don't you post a picture here of your room(s) and let everyone give you suggestions?
