Can anyone help me...redoing a bathroom

Heres my situation, in three to four years my DH and me want to expand upward our house...we are in the process of saving money now. We have a cape that has two bedrooms on the first floor and a full bathroom. The full bathroom is getting really gross, wallpaper peeling and its is totally covered in pink...bathtub, tiles. I really want to just retile the floor and walls, paint where the wallpaper is and get a new toilet, tub and vanity.

HOwever, when we redo the house the first floor will be totally changed around (no bedrooms) and the bathroom will probably be made into a smaller one with standing shower....

Does it make sense for us to redo it now even if we change the house around in 3-4 years? Anyone who has redone a bathroom professionally how much did it cost (you can FM me if you want). I really don't know what to do anymore...but i get nauseaus going into my bathroom these days....don't know if i can deal with this for another 3-4 years.

We replaced the toilet, vanity and mirror in our old bathroom (from 1969) a few years ago. When we redid the entire bathroom, those were a few things we didn't have to purchase and were still in new condition.

I know taking wallpaper down is very difficult - and if you are replacing the tile you may have to replace the sheetrock and/or concrete board too. Quite honestly, between the kitchen abd bathroom, those are the 2 rooms that are the most expensive to change and unless you are going to remodel the entire downstairs, including moving walls, I would redo the bath now if you can. You will feel so much better about your home when you do.

IMO I would re-do small things to chang eit up and then in 3-4 years re-do the entire bathroom...

I agree. You can take the wallpaper down and re-paint now, and that will probably make a huge difference. The only way I'd change out the tub, vanity and toilet is if you could use them when you ultimately renovate in a few years (I'm sure you can re-use the toilet, but the tub and vanity might not work in your next room).

I'd stick with simple quick fixes and leave the rest until you're ready to do it right. If you can't do the work yourself, it will get rpicey to have it professionally done twice.

Good luck!

Yeah even if i painted where the wallpaper is it won't do too much. This bathroom is UGLY! Pink Tiles on the walls, pink and grey on the floor, grey vanity and toliet and pink bathtub. AND my favorite part the pink hamper attached to the wall that you see in bathrooms from the 1950s!

The problem is that its are only full bathroom (we have a 1/2 one upstairs) so we have to use it all the time and that is the one the guests go to.

I wish i could figure out something to do. I probably will have to repaint this year because the curling up wall paper (pink and grey mind you) will get too gross.
