Im just curious and NO Im not being mean.
I just like to browse at the pics and I am surprised that many of the styles of holders are the same

Wacky, that's why I wanted mine to be so different! I know what you mean, centerpieces tend to look very similar. I can't wait for mine, it will be a row of 5 smaller centerpieces rather than one big one, with votive candles placed around sporadically... I'll post pics in a few weeks, I only have 9 days to go!

wacky, to you mean the tall centerpiece with the votives that come up it on the side?

i too am trying to avoid the tall centerpiece with votive candles all the way up. while it is a lovely design, i feel that it is way too formal for the type of wedding i want to have. i am sticking to hurricane lamps with small votive candles around the base. no flowers. i'm hoping this will set a more romantic yet less formal feeling.

I used bubble bowls...only b/c it was easier...and since my florist is a good friend of the family I trusted him so I wasn't really concerned about the flowers...
but for interesting ideas the show race for the alter had some WONDERFUL table settings...I'll look for some of the pics...they were very original...

mine are going to be different, too. I didn't want the typical centerpiece. For our 'beach/nautical' theme, we are making our own with low, semi octogon shaped bowls, filled with sand, shells and beachgrass and the rim will be wrapped with roping tied at the end with small shells. Oh, yeah, a 9' pillar candle will be in the middle of the bowl! We did a sample and it looks really nice.

not sure - I don't care for the really tall ones so mine were pretty unique - we had hurricane lamps with decorated grapevine wreaths for our Fall wedding.

i never noticed it til i came to liweddings and went to some east coast weddings. everywhere else (other websites and cali weddings) i always saw a lot more creativity. most people don't even use flowers. i guess it's just an east coast thing to stick to those tall centerpieces with lots of flowers?

Mine are something like this, except the top doesnt have the lid. I bought them at Target, and Im putting a 3x9 Burgundy Pillar Candle in the center, with white/beige & cranberry Potpourri around it mid way and a Burgundy Sheer Ribbon on the bottom....I wanted to give whoever takes it home, something they can use and not throw away. I love candles so thats the what I went with.

GOOD question Wacky... Interesting observation, Sonia. Do you think it's b/c the east coast is so 'compete with the Jones'' in their mentality? That if someone dares to be different they won't be as 'cool' or accepted by the socially-normal?? !
Yeah, I'll be mean today - I'm unshowered, without power and stuck at work - where they're WASTING electricity. Ugh.

I think most use the same florist and they use the supply they have, my guess that it.

yabbo - that's what we are going for... elegant (somewhat!). Our favors are sand dollars with a ribbon on the front with our name/date and another coordinating ribbon which will make it a hanging/ornament piece. These will be given to each person in a drawstring organza bag. They look really nice! Plus, i think we are putting our placecards in small frames (not sure yet)

well, i'm using the 'cool' and 'socially normal' centerpiece i suppose - the tall one with the votives going up it. but i'm not doing it to fit in or get approval by guests. the one i chose fit the look i am trying to go for, as well as matching my color scheme and those chairs that crest hollow has now. plus it was the one i liked the best- i thought it was elegant. i thought about making something myself but didn't want to go through the hassle of making 30 centerpieces. i did my own centerpieces for my engagement party and it was such a last minute hassle.

I guess I'll pose the opposite question... why is it so important that people be different? Perhaps that style keeps coming up because its beautiful and as a result lots of people love it.
I always feel bad for the brides who post on here when they find a dress/invitation/song that they love, but they are worried to use it because other people have.
I guess my philosophy is who cares if everyone or noone had done it before, if the bride loves it thats what she should have.

Me being the 'flower freak' of course I am looking to have unique centerpieces. I have finally decided that I am most likely going to do all orchids - so they will be some type of high arrangement. The centerpeice style that most girls are using is just not what I am lookign for. Although I do agree when placed in teh halls make a very grand statement. Everyone has their own picture of what their centerpeices will look like. I think that many girls do use these because the are very gorgeous and grand!
