I was beginning to second guess myself b/c I am not having high centerpieces so I am glad to hear that some are opting for a differnt way. John at FLower Michele recommended low centerpieces for me since I am getting married at the Westbury Manor and the tables are oblong and not round so if I had a high one, the rest of the table would be bare. So, I have a oblong low centerpiece with rose petals and fat pillar candals on each end.

I suppose because being different is what made those high pedestal CPs popular in the first place. Right? I mean, they weren't very popular even 10 years ago and now everyone is using them.

That was 1 of the reasons that I didn't do a high centerpiece. The other was that I had a day wedding and wanted something more low key I guess

valenia- that's how i feel completely - some people change what they would normally have wanted just to be different. i know my centerpiece is used a lot (not at the 5 weddings I've already been to this year) but many girls on LIW are using it.
but it still will be different bc it's MY wedding. and it's different for me bc i've never done this before.

Lunatrek & tanbride...my tables are oblong and I was thinking of doing what the both of you are doing - either a few small CPs lined up the middle with tapers or pillars in between OR a low oblong CP with tapers. I guess I'll figure it out in a couple of weeks when I meet with John at Flower Michele.

CP: John can show you a photo of my sample since I think he keeps them on his laptop. One oblong CP in the middle of the table with 1 pillar candle on each side with rose petals on the table. Orginally we were going to do 3 small CPs lined up the middle with pillars but that cost way more $$ so I had to downsize - John is the best!

cp- if you want a low centerpiece- do you like the idea of those mirrors that the vase and candles that are in a glass candleholder go on top of?
also - i see you are getting married in the fall- what about a tree like plant with branches that have votive candles hanging off of them?

jag - I'm not particularly fond of the mirrors, but thank you for the suggestion.
I'm getting married in the summer - Labor Day weekend. But I have seen some tree-like CPs that I really liked. I have a bunch of pics clipped in my scrapbook to bring with me...ironically a bunch are oblong - I clipped them even before we picked our hall!
ETA: Thanks tanbride - I will mention your handle to him! (When I met him at Oheka he said he knows all the LIW girls by their LIW names - it was pretty funny!)

CP: I know!! I don't think I ever told him my LIW name but he was like, 'I am so glad you like the centerpiece Tanbride' - my mother was like, 'whose tanbride' - it was soo funny!!!

I want candelabra's not because they are popular, or I saw someone was having them, I saw the candelabr'as in a picture at VIlla Lombardis' and from that point on I wanted them.
I hadn't even been on liweddings, or gone to a florist.
I am also not one to keep up the joneses, it is just what I like, and if that is what seems to be popular then so be it. I have not been to a wedding with those type of cp's.

I know what you mean Wacky. I loved yours! They just flowed all over the table. Scooby I am thinking about using something likes your's too (reverse high, I think some call it)

I think it's the nicest stand most florists have to choose from. I'm using high bc low centerpieces tend to block peoples view of the other people across the table and they can't converse with them. They end up staring at flowers all night. Plus I loooovvvee high pieces!

Wacky I agree. This is why I wanted to stay away from the norm. My CPs are high ones, but the stand is very different. I don't have my sample done yet. But the one I did see, it was amazing IMO. I have to get John to send it to me.

we aer doing a candle garden for our centerpieces....I am not a big fan of flowers, so I didn't even look at most of the ones people get. It is a simple 5 candle garden.... that's all.

WE are having candelabras which we bought at the outlets, and John from Flower Michele is putting english ivy in the center and rose petals on the table,they hold 5 candles each, and someone at each table will take one home.

thats the one thing I don't really care what it looks like....mine is simple and I am just surrounding it with votives. I don't have the $$ to get a fancy one!

I haven't selected my florist yet. Still searching. Most likely Jack and Rose. But, we are using low centerpieces on oblong tables. We are getting married at Fox hollow in the briar fox room and the ceilings are low and I was told that the arrangements would look nicer with lower centerpieces. Fine with me! I love the look of low centerpieces. I thought I would go for the tall after I saw some of the lower ones!
