Can I come to your wedding?

Can I come to your wedding?

Am I on your invitation list? No? Then that means I'm probably not invited, right?

Why do people think that if they are not able to make your wedding, they can 'send someone in their place?' FI's aunt (by relationship, not even by blood) decided that though she couldn't make it, she would send her daughter-in-law's mother's sister's cousin twice removed -- with a date!! Are you kidding me? This woman had the nerve to be offended when FI told her absolutely not.

As I've said before, weddings bring out the worst in people. I can't believe how nervy some people can be. People I know keep assuming that they are invited. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Huh? Excuse me? The invitation had her name, not this other person. Thankfully FI said no! What is wrong with people?

Hmmm. And is she sending them with the gift or check she was planning to bring too. Doubtful.

I never heard of passing off a wedding invitations to people the couple does not even know --- UNLESS they are just attending to bring the gift/check the invited person was planning to bring. In that situation, the person just shows up and drops off the gift then leaves so they are not actually included in the final headcount.

Otherwise, to send a stranger to your wedding in her place?!?!?! Very strange.

It's funny, there are all these books and articles on wedding etiquette directed to the bride and groom, but there should be 'Wedding Guest Etiquette' periodicals out there!

Unbelievable!

My sister recently got married, and as people said last minutes 'no's' on her FH's side, his mom was verbally inviting people days before the wedding - and my parents were paying! It was the rudest thing, and she flipped when my mom told her so. She did not think there was anything wrong with inviting people she worked with two days before the wedding to 'fill spots.' What spots?! We were paying by the head!

My point exactly!! My side of the family is paying *most*. How dare you try to 'fill' a spot! Are these people crazy? So far, I've only let there be one 'substitution', and that's because I invited a very old and dear friend from my childhood and her husband. Her husband has job obligations and can't make it. So she's bringing her sister instead. BUT, her sister was on the first draft of my invitation list anyway but I had to cut her (along with some others) because I hadn't been in touch with her in so many years so I figured, if I've gotta cut somewhere, the people I haven't been in contact with for more than 5 years go. So I was thrilled to allow her to bring her sister (who's also a friend of mine) in her husband's place. But I KNOW these people. I do not know whoever this is auntie wanted to substitute.
