Can I have opinions on Bay Shore and Selden please???
I know there are different school areas. I am looking for opinions on the areas that include Bay Shore Schools only. I wont buy in Brentwood school district, as they rate pretty low, and I cant afford a house in the Islip school district. I am getting conflicting reports re: Bayshore so I thought I would put this out to you experts. Thanks.
ETA: Information regarding Selden.
ETA (Sat nite): We bid on a really cute house in Selden and it was accepted. Thank you for all your opinions. It was nothing against Bay Shore the house just didnt work out, it had a bid on it already.

I'm not an expert on the areas but I have heard from friends who lived/bought there that you should be careful of certain sections of each town.
You can pretty much tell when you drive through an area if you like it or not. Ask your agent for addresses and drive past during the day to get a good view of the neighborhood.
My advice to you is be very educated on where you buy - houses on LI are so expensive and its a huge investment. Such a shame to buy and be unhappy with your area and not be happy with the resale value.

I am also not an expert, but I have friends who grew up in Bayshore and I spent a lot of time with them during my teen years. Bayshore is nice, but like most places you need to be careful of certain areas.

Curly2003 lives in Bayshore and it looks like a really nice area from what I have seen.

my hubby grew up in Centereach which is next to Selden. that would be Middle Country School district. He only went to HS here. It is a nice area.

I lived in Selden for about 5 years and my MOH lived there for about 12 and the school district is great and so is the area.

I'm related to the Bay Shore superintendent, so I'm biased, but in general I think it's fair to say that Bay Shore is getting better and better. The schools are better than Brentwood but not as strong as neighboring Islip.
Newsday did an article on BayShore in the Friday real estate section about a month ago. I'll see if I can find the link.
