it's true, i never said i hated the team

i DO hate steinbrenner and what he has done, the whole money thing, even though it's legal and the mets are guilty of the same thing

i DO hate the majority of the fans that base their loyalty on anything that happened in 1996 or later, or only because derek is cute, or becuase my DH roots for them, so I want him to be happy. I have respect and admiration for the true diehards, people that rooted for the team, when they were struggling in the 80's

i DO hate the bleacher creatures because they are overly obnoxious and harass any non fans in the section, which i don't think is right. Every park has obnoxious fans, but these idiots pride themselves on it.

Yet I still don't possibly see how you can separate all this 'yankee-associated hatred' from actually hating the Yankees as well..but I will refrain from further comment

I still don't possibly see how you can separate all that associated hatred from hating the Yankees as well, but I will refrain

i separate them because at heart i am a fan of good competitive baseball

i mean if the yanks are playing the twins and the game goes 12 innings and it's a nail biter and the yanks win, how can you not cheer and say, great game, even if you're not thrilled with the outcome

Sure ... if the arguement is that 'as a fan of baseball you can say such and such was a great game' that is one thing. But if the outcome is such that a team you associate a lot of 'hatred' towards winds up prevailing, well I still find it difficult to believe you are able to 'cheer' and say 'great game' and not be PO'd and aggravated about it nonetheless..

The Yankees are the most hated team in baseball .. that is a fact. I don't have a problem with those who hate them, I think anyone (or any organization) who is THAT successful opens themselves up for a lot of envy, hatred and abuse

Then again, maybe I'm just more emotional than you in the end.. I cannot separate things such as you just did above....

For instance, there are no amount of great games that Boston could ever play that would ever make me lessen the hatred I feel for them ... I HATE THEM

And to take it a step further -

as previously stated,there is only ONE team I'd ever want to see the Mets beat if it came down to it ... that being the RedSox if they ever met up in the WS or interleague play.. As for anyone else, I'd STILL always root again the Mets to lose - and yes, to see them lose badly is awfully fun. I would probably be gleeful about it come to think of it

My reason? Well perhaps it was too many years of getting abuse at the hands of 'obnoxious' Mets fans during their glorious 80's ... times like those can do that to a 'diehard' (pre 1996) Yankee fan, ya know?

I often thank my lucky stars that I didn't 'disqualify' him based on this one factor alone.. since I truly would have been kicking myself forever if I blew off Anthony purely based on the fact he was a Mets fan!! (becuse in every other way he is the best man I know, save for his poor taste in baseball )
