Can I take a deduction for work clothes?

Can I take a deduction for work clothes?

My friend told me that his ex-girlfriend brought clothing receipts to her accountant and was able to get a tax deduction for them! Is that true? I've never heard of this before!

I thought that only applied if it was uniforms?

Yep, you're right. I just checked with my colleague, the tax guru, and he said it IS only for uniforms. Apparently, the deduction is only for clothes that you can't wear outside of work in a social setting, so suits don't count. Oh well...guess my friend's ex will be getting audited next year
