If I dress it up with jewelry and have my hair done? I was also thinking of getting a black short crinolin slip maybe to wear under it to poof it out a little. Kind of 'Sarah Jessica Parker-ish' Shoes are not a definite.
Well when is wedding and wear? I would say yes but take a pashmina too

it's at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, NJ August 19th. 11am service at the RH and I assume the cocktail hour starts after the service... since it's at the RH.

Since it is a daytime wedding, I think it would be fine. Typically, a black tie wedding calls for a longer dress, but since this isn't the case here, I think it will be ok. I would bring a wrap or pashmina though, as was suggested above! Love the dress!! HTH!

Black tie means a long dress for women.
Even dressing this up with accessories, IMO, would not be proper for a black tie event.
Edited : sorry - did not notice the post that the wedding starts at 11:00 - that is too early for a black tie wedding. Black tie should be reserved for an evening reception only. Does the invite state black tie optional ? If it does, then this dress would be appropriate.

Nope, it doesn't say 'optional' just 'Black Tie' at the bottom. And it didn't indicate when the cocktail hour and reception begin which leads me to believe it starts immediately after the ceremony since it's at the RH. I was thinking Black Tie is usually for a night time wedding and that I would have to wear a long gown, but since it's early I'm not so sure..?

I agree - since the reception is in the day, I would wear this to it. Strange, though, to have a black tie DAY wedding. I actually don't think I've ever heard or a black tie wedding that isn't in the evening.

Yes, I would agree. Normally Black Tie weddings are held in the evening...but since this is an earlier affair I think that dress is perfect!!
BTW...I LOVE it! So my taste, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes!!

I love the dress and the shoes are super-cute. My first instinct was not for a black tie wedding. But now that i see that it's a day time wedding I think you can get away with it.

regardless of the time of the affair, black tie means a long gown. sorry, but imo that is not appropriate.

Re: Can I wear this to a Black Tie wedding?
I am torn because a 'BLACK TIE WEDDING' is formal and means a long gown. I understand it is in the afternoon- but being they made it a point to put that it is black tie then I would think they want people to dress that way and IMO that would not be black tie. I LOVE the dress for a normal wedding or even a shower but I don't think it would fit a black tie wedding.

Re: Can I wear this to a Black Tie wedding?
unfortunately black tie does mean long dresses...normally i would say that dress is PERFECT for a day wedding but i guess the bride wants a black tie affair even if her wedding is in the afternoon, i know ive seen girls on this site who said they want the same thing although its in the afternoon, that's why i say that.
Do you know others going to the wedding? do you know the bride or groom personally or somebody close to them? I would ask others and see what they are doing, or if they have more info about this...if others plan on doing the same thing then go for it, its a great dress and personally i think its great for an afternoon wedding but not sure about what the bride is expecting.

Thanks girls! You have all had the same thoughts as I have! I might check around with some of FH's friends who are going to the wedding to see what they're wearing.
