Can I wear this to a Black Tie wedding?

Original post by Lools

If I dress it up with jewelry and have my hair done? I was also thinking of getting a black short crinolin slip maybe to wear under it to poof it out a little. Kind of 'Sarah Jessica Parker-ish'
Shoes are not a definite.

The Crystal Plaza is a beautiful hall.

We had a black tie wedding, which started at 8:30PM then CH and Reception followed immediatly. A lot of girls did wear short dresses, but they were very dressy. I think it's a very cute dress, but not for a black tie affair. I think you should go for something longer.

I always considered black tie affairs to be more elegant so I would go with a gown but it IS day time so maybe that would work?
Do you know anyone else whos' invited? Id check to see what everyone else had in mind and go according to them.

While I agree about the Black Tie should be a night time thing, apparently this bride has a certain attire set in her mind. I think the dress is adorable but since its not 'optional' I think you should wear something a little more formal. JMHO

The dress is beautiful. As for the whole 'black tie' thing: many people who I know have written that because they wanted to avoid men wearing just shirts & pants: but there is no way to say 'pls wear a suit'.

Just give the couple a call & ask.

But yes: black tie should mean long dress.

I think you would feel more comfortable in a more formal dress...even with the hair done and slip(which will be sooooo freakin' cute by the way), it is still a little too trendy to be considered black tie. I think you can get away with a cocktail dress, but it should be all black with some glitz to it and black heels...the whole daytime thing throws me off though...

LOVE the dress, LOVE the shoes!!!! So something that I would wear!!!

As for wearing it to a black tie wedding, I don't know. Anyone else?

i agree

i like it-- so cute

but NOT for a black tie wedding-- IMHO, the dress needs to be to the floor.

The wedding is in the day, but maybe that's why they put 'Black Tie' on the invitation, to make it clear that they wanted formal attire.

Unfortunately (because it is a nice dress), Black tie means formal; a long gown, and I think you might feel underdressed...

I am torn because a 'BLACK TIE WEDDING' is formal and means a long gown. I understand it is in the afternoon- but being they made it a point to put that it is black tie then I would think they want people to dress that way and IMO that would not be black tie. I LOVE the dress for a normal wedding or even a shower but I don't think it would fit a black tie wedding.

I agree. Although it is unusual to have a black tie wedding during the day that is obviously what the couple wanted and therefore so you are not out of place, I think you should wear a long dress.

I think for a black tie wedding ths dress would not work even though it is in the day time. I have been to a wedding at the crystal plaza and I don't think you would be comfortable in a dress like that.

IMO

I agree that its a tough one-I would say yes to an afternoon wedding but NO since it is black tie-afternoon or not maybe the bride wanted people to dress more formal even though its the afternoon

That's a tough one I would probably get something a little more dressy because when I think of black tie a think of a gown. Although, it is very cute and could probably be dressed up. The material also depends-if it is silky then it is dressier then if it is a light cotton-hope this helps!
