can someone stop my mothers yelling?

so i come home from work, and i get bombarded by her yelling.... telling me that the house town and location is a horrible area, that she, my dad, sister and her friends are all so mad about the house, that the house is sh*t, location is sh*t, that the house will never appreciate in value..... im very happy with the house and location

I'm so sorry...weren't you afraid that this exact thing would happen?

It sucks when you are totally excited about something but your loved ones make you feel like sh!t about it.

As long as you love the house and location, you will have many happy years living there!

personally I'd tell her to shut the hell up, but I know that you can't.

I don't know what to tell you because I've never had the same problem. Can you talk to your dad and have him talk to your mom?

I'm sorry - you have enough to worry about without her yelling about the house.

its just very difficult because i am still living at my parents home.....

everyone that we would mention east meadow to as one of the towns we were looking at they liked that town, but would tell us bad things about other towns,.... apparently everyone she talks to tells her bad about e.m.

she told me my dad is VERY upset also, that they were both cursing so much, and took a while to calm down the other day...

i would give them an ultimatum

either stop now and let us live our lives, or lose us and have no involvement in our lives going forward (i.e. grandkids, etc.)

my whole family lives in EM and i've been there many times, lovely town

My mom is the same way.

She is going to have to get over it. When my mom starts yelling now I just ignore it. Could it be that she is just stressed and upset about you moving out and getting married? My mom told me once this is why she is yelling at me, because she is going to miss me

Re: can someone stop my mothers yelling?

ughh... she wont stop, now she's yelling about all these other things... yells at me for the rsvp being mike instead of my house, i said i will give her the money for the invitations, she said do that... then she goes you know im paying for the wedding, and i said no its covering the reception, that money isnt even covering half the wedding.... she goes then you majorly blew money.... excuse me $25,000 for 130 people including honeymoon is very afforable on long island

Re: can someone stop my mothers yelling?

its just so frustating because growing up she always had to take me down a peg, when i was in hs 5'6' 140 she told me that i was fat, and that i fat, only my face was pretty so i had a very limited selection of guys....... thank goodness mike came around when he did because she always tries to criticise when she is farrrrr from perfect herself

Re: can someone stop my mothers yelling?

I grew up in Levittown. Border of E.M. It's not a bad area. What part of E.M. is the house?

Re: can someone stop my mothers yelling?

Emily, seems like your mother has issues (sorry, I hate saying that to someone) but if she's always been this way, always putting you down..maybe it's time to walk away. Maybe getting married and moving out and putting distance between the two of you she will finally calm down. Sounds like she's a bit envious of you, which is very sad for a mother to be of her daughter.

Either way, I hope that your wedding is the best and that your mother doesn't ruin it. And don't worry about the house, maybe EM isn't Garden City but it's a good town, no matter what your mother says

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this, I know how family can be, I've got some winners in mine as well Tell her you'll gladly live where she thinks you should live, all she has to do is buy the house for you and you'll move right in!

I'm so sorry you have to put up with hersh-t. If it were me, i would give it right back toher at this point. But I have no patience for this kind of stuff. You are beautiful and will be very happy in yournew home with your new husband. Ignore her!

Re: can someone stop my mothers yelling?

thank you
so i talked to my sister, and she basically confirmed what my mother said. she doesnt think the house is worth what we are paying for it.......... hello......... i tell her the house appraised for higher then the buying price and on long island there are alot of houses appraised for under bidding price...... she STILL didnt care........ I try to say that its the house we are happy in and love and isnt that important?...... she goes well yeah, but we though you would have found a better house in a better area.......... cant they just bite their tongues instead of trying to bash me......

After hearing all of this... i'd bite my tongue till after the wedding (assuming she is paying for it)... then i'd tell her to piss off myself.

any long island real estate will gain value! Tell her to read the paper. A shack in the ghetto sells for 400,000!

Re: can someone stop my mothers yelling?

It sounds like your mother is suffering from, 'Nothing is good enough for my baby' syndrome. Try your hardest to remember through all of this yelling that she is probably just scared shitless for you to be all on your own in a neighborhood she's unsure of. Try your hardest not to fight right before the wedding. It's so not worth it. Try not to yell back at her. If you remain calm and confident about your decision rather than getting emotional and yelling back (I know it's easier said than done), she'll eventually have to deal with your decision. This is just one of several decisions in your independent life she's going to have to deal with, so she better get used to starting now. It sounds like you may be her first born and she's not dealing well with the fact that she will not be ruling every decision you make from this point forward. The decision has already been made ... fighting is not going to get either of you anywhere. I know it's impossible to live with, but remaining calm is probably your best bet right now. Like others have said, you only have to deal with living under her roof and regs for a little while longer. Until then, !
