You go to the post office and instead of putting it through the machine and getting machine stamped by them they have rubber stamps and someone hand cancels them personally.
Basically you know when you receive mail and theres the machine stamp from the post office, with the date it was sent out or whatever and its in black

some post offices will let you do it and others will do it for you. but either way you have to tell them you want it done

& some will actually charge you! The post office by me in Rock Center will do the first 50 for free and then an extra .05 cents for everyone there after.

I think it's just to prevent your invitations from getting all smooshied....but there could probably be a better reason too.

Becuase of the thick envelopes and paper, the invitations can occassionally be destroyed in those machines.... (just like a printer of xerox machine accident)
