FH and I are looking into an apartment in Astoria and it says it will be prorated if moved in before Jan. 1st. I have no clue what that means!

you will pay for the month of january- plus any other days that you live there- so if you move in december 15th- you would pay 1 1/2 months rent.

It means you will have to pay the portion of days you live there.
Like if rent is 3000, and you are there 10 days of december, you have to pay 1000

Pro rated in this case would mean not charging you the full month's rent. For Example, if you moved in Dec 15th and you full month's rent is $1000- they might charge you a pro rated $500 for Dec, since you only lived there 1/2 month. Then, in Jan your regular rent would begin. HTH!!

Yeah same with cable and telephone. I added a new ch to my cable the other day and they told me I will see a pro-rated charge so I wont get charged for the whole month bec I added it towards the end of the month

Thanks! I would love to move into this apartment! Its a block from the Ditmars station and only 1350! Thats two hundred dollars more than were paying now and were all the way up Ditmars!

it just means they look at how many days are left in the month and you pay for just those days.
