Can someone tell me why

Can someone tell me why

Bridal shops don't allow you to photograph yourself in a gown you are trying on? You can only take a photo after you've purchased the gown. I don't mean the line I was given at the store, but the real reason...

I'm pretty sure it's so you can't go comparrison shop, like take the picture to other shops to see if they have the gown, and see if they have a cheaper price.

I agree with SomedayBride, however, my bridal shop allowed me to take pictures before they knew I had decided to purchase my dress from them.

I took pictures at Bridal Suite in Centereach, we didn't ask, just started shooting. They didn't say anything. Then when we went back to order my dress and the girls dresses (which I love), we took more pics.

I was told it's so gowns aren't copied, but I also believe that they don't want us to go and compare prices with other stores.

That excuse makes no sense whatsoever. You are aware of the dress that you are trying on bec it is illegal for them to take out the labels.

I tried on a gown by a designer that only sells to two bradal salons in NY. I knew very well which dress I was trying on since i asked her for that specific dress. And yet, she still didnt let me take a picture. - I can still make a comparison shop without the picture -

Still wondering about their real reason then....

I was told it is because they do not want you to take that picture to someone and have the dress made.

It's true though -- none of those reasons make sense. You can always comparison shop if you know the designer and style number and you also don't need a picture to have the dress made because pictures of the gowns are available in many places.... I guess a picture of you in it might help the dressmaker....hmmmm ... we still haven't solved the mystery.....

Re: Can someone tell me why

Attica, talk about removing labels. I found several stores did that with MOB gowns, and they didn't bat an eye when I told them I knew they were Jovani gowns. The sales girls still insisted they didn't know who designed them. (Do you ever wish you could find a tactful way to call someone a liar to their face?)

Here's another imponderable wedding gown question. You said only two salons in NY carry your gown. The same happened with my daughter's Eve of Milady gown. I called several places on LI bec. some girls recommended them. I was told they can definitely get the gown. One place even used the sales rep's name in NJ and said we would get a certificate of authenticity when the gown came in. I called the Eve of Milady sales rep herself in NJ and spoke to her. She said 'No way. Don't buy from an unauthorized dealership.' We went with Bridal Reflection, paid SRP just to be safe, but haven't solved that mystery yet either.

thats a load of Cr@p!! ... My bridal store allowed me to take pictures of a few dresses as well as my girls in the dress I chose.. just to see which ones we liked better.. I used Fantasia Bridal Center, in Rocky Point.

LImom - Thanks for the info - I am going to look into that. THe designer is Justina McCaffrey - one other option I was pondering was going to Canada to get the dress since the exchange rate is very beneficial for the USDollar.

I will hit kind of a snag though since the dress that i am currently in love with was made specifically for Fontana Bridal.

Attica, you should try to see if any bridal salons in NJ carry your dress - no sales tax. Worth the tolls to get it there.

I took pics of mine before I bought it, but It did have a different brand name tag in it!

Re: Can someone tell me why

i was able to take a pic of my dress in the store... it could be that maybe you were in a public kinda area and they might have not been decent girls or possible could not be and they don't need a law suite or problems with someone being undresses in someone elses pic.
i also got my dress at the same place a nora

Re: Can someone tell me why

Attica, iI went to Fontana's for a MOB gown. The salelady would not budge from my side. She stuck me in a fitting room and had someone bringing me gowns to try. Afterwards, I asked if she had Eve of Milady bridal gowns for me to see (I wanted to see if they had the gown my daughter ordered to show my cousin), and they refused to let me go down stairs to the bridal dept. without the bride with me. I don't think you'll have much luck getting any pictures or further information from them.

If it's specifically made for them, what can you do? Maybe you can go to another salon that carries McCaffrey, (I know Kleinfeld's does), find the closest gown and requst the changes to make it look like the Fontana gown. Going to Canada sounds really ambitious. I love how you think. It sounds like you have a challenge ahead of you. Keep us posted. Good luck.
