i just got my quote for hair for my BP and MOB and she indicated that she would be charging tax.
i thought you cant charge tax on services like that? Plus its required i pay in cash..just another reason not to have tax in my opinion.
is hair a service that you can charge tax on? thanks

I thought by law....services cannot be taxed. I have never been taxed at my salon. My make-up, DJ and Photo are not charging tax. If I were you I would look into this a little more.

I have never been charged tax when I've gotten my hair cut or styled. Plus, if she is requiring you to pay in cash, you can bet all of it is going right into her pocket. Sounds to me like she is trying to pull one over on you.

That's what I thought! I don't have tax on my dj. I thought you have to actually have a material item/product to be taxed. If its just a service you can't be taxed

she's making you pay in cash...that makes it sound a little suspicious. is she coming to you or are you going to a salon? if she is coming to you then she is pocketing all the money from the service and she doesn't have to tip out for anyone, therefore, she should not be charging tax. however, if she insists that she charge tax and you still want to use her, make sure that she gives you a full receipt for her services the day of....don't let her leave without that. she sounds a bit like an opportunist to me if she is coming to you.

No, no tax on a service unless you were paying by credit card (and im not even sure about this but i know my saon charges tax if i pay with credit).
I think she's being dishonest with you.

shes a very well known vendor on here thats why im so unsure about this, its not like she is just starting out. she stated that she used to not charge tax but now she is ?

i didnt hear anything about the law changing but that limo law did change, ya know. did you look it up? even so, she should say why she is now and she wasnt before. could she possibly think that she was doing something illegal before and now decided to start going by the book (which is acutally illegal, lololol, idunno, just guessing)

I jsut googled it cause i didn't know if the other non tax charging places were the sketchy ones or yours was... if it's in NYC that's different. But it looked like NYS is trying to impose a tax also.
