Can u say Mr. & Mrs. Tom and Jill Smith?

I have to send my invite wording today, and I'm having trouble b/c I've always disliked : Mr. & Mrs. (Husband's name) Smith. I feel like my mom's first name should be in there too.

This doesn't sound right to me without the Mr. & Mrs.:
Tom and Jill Smith
and
Ken and Jane Doe
invite you to share in the happiness....

but can you say:

Mr. & Mrs. Tom and Jill Smith
and
Mr. & Mrs. Ken and Jane Doe
invite you to share in the .....

If you want both their first names on the invite, I would put Tom and Jill Smith, NOT Mr. and Mrs. Tom and Jill Smith.

Does your mom want her first name on there? If so, I'd drop the Mr. and Mrs. Adding both first names after Mr. and Mrs. isn't technically correct and it sounds awkward. If you want to go with formal language, it's Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith. (We put middle names on our wedding invite as well)

For addressing envelopes, it's also not correct. In fact, technically, it shouldn't Mrs. Jill Smith if it's just addressed to her either. It should be Mrs. Tom Smith. (Mrs. Jill Smith is becoming more acceptable, though)

You can do whatever you want, but technically, it is incorrect to put Mr. and Mrs. Tom and Jill Smith.

You wouldn't say 'The Mr. and Mrs.' either to talk about more t han one couple. Mr. and Mrs. are both singular. It would have to be 'The Messrs. and Madames'

ETA - Oops, misread your post. You weren't suggesting 'The Mr. and Mrs.' as part of the wording. SORRY!

Re: Can u say Mr. & Mrs. Tom and Jill Smith?

i learned that you should never separate a mans first name from his last

so putting mr. and mrs. tom and jill smith

right there Tom's last name is 2 words away from his first name.

I did Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith

Except to use his middle name. That's perfectly acceptable, too.

We used

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas John Smith

I agree with you about having the woman's name included. When we enter the RH I want them to announce both our first names

So since I'm not very proficient in grammar I was just wondering if Mr. Thomas & Mrs. Jill Smith is an option ??

Ok, I'm just gonna say Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Smith

I feel bad for my mom if she's not 'representing' lol But it sounds too casual to me to say Thomas and Jane Smith....

oh well!

Thanks girls

If your mom is okay with it, I would go with the traditional wording.

My mom wouldn't want me to put her first name on there, and I want them to introduce my FH and I to our reception with only his first name. I'm proud to hear it and don't feel like it is at all disrespectful or demeaning. I can't wait to be Mrs. Todd XXXXX.

However, that's what works for us. Other people view it differently. Most people are not offended by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith, though. Ask your mom how she feels about it.

We put Tom and Jill Smith
I hate the Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith thing. So did my mom. She wanted her name first too, but she and my dad had a little spat about it and my dad's name wound up going first.

I just asked my mom, we both would like to have her name, but she also likes the traditional style~ so we'll go with that

I felt the same way as you, but when I asked my mom she wanted Mr. & Mrs. Tom Smith, so that's what we went with.

I know ettiquette says to not separate a man's first name from his last, but I HATE the Mr. & Mrs. Tom Smith thing. I want the ladies' names there so despite the fact that ettiquette says otherwise, we are doing:

Mr. & Mrs. Tom and Jill Smith

I just had this conversation with the woman from the invite place....that is my huge pet peeve...and I understand that it is socially correct BUT I dont care for

Mr & Mrs John Smith

call me a crazy women's right freak but where is the woman's name in that...dont we have a first name?

I actually argued that point with the place doing our invited b/c I wanted the outer envelope to read

John & Jane Smith

I was told that I was being socially incorrect...but hey its our money paying for them so I'm going to be as socially incorrect as I want to be:)

no offense to the majority of people out there I know this is the proper way but I'm not all that proper I guess..hahaha
