My mom invited her friends from Michigan to the wedding, which I'm fine with. They are a very nice couple whom I've known my entire life. They are driving here today for the RD tonight and wedding tomorrow.
She was talking to them last night about how to get from the hotel to the RD, and they said 'Dave (their 25 year old son who's laid off work) is jealous that we are coming to NY. We told him that by now someone must've cancelled. Just come along. So maybe he'll be there too!' My mother was so stunned she didn't know what to say to them.
For the RD we are taking people to the LI Ducks game tonight, but we don't have an unlimited number of tickets. And there isn't room for their son at their table at the wedding.
My mom says it's just that they have no idea what NY weddings are like. When my mom went to their daughter's wedding, she had to go with them early to decorate the reception site with crepe paper and make confetti out of a heart hole punch and tin foil.
I'm so annoyed. What if he shows up? They've already left, so I don't know if he's coming or not. Do you believe this?

I am sorry. People are just inconsiderate. If he can not sit with them then he can't. As the person said someone must have cancelled so he must be willing to sit wherever!! Just have your Mom tell her that. Have Mom explain that it is to late to rearrange the seating. If he does not like that he may not want to come and if he did come to NY he can go site seeing!.

Wow!! just to play it safe, I would make arrangements (seating, seating card, favor) for him JUST in case he does come, you really don't want him to feel like he is putting anyone out (even if he is)! S

Stuff like this makes me so mad
People are so inconsiderate and tacky.
I know I will have to deal with stuff like this.

OMG! That is tacky, but it's true that they don't know any better. Don't worry. Everything will work out. I would do what Swags said.

Re: Can you believe this?
Wow - I am surprised that your friends just thought it was OK to bring him without checking with you first. But as someone said, outside of the metro area and long island, weddings are sooooo laid back and not anything like how it is here. Where if someone wants to come last minute, it's never a problem. I am sure you have had some cancellations. So you know what? See if they can squeeze him in at the reception at a table, but if he can't sit with his parents, oh well. And as for the RD if the parents are going and you don't have an extra ticket, he can't go. Simple as that. They should have asked you first and it's their own fault for not finding out if he could come. Unfortunatley it's one of those things where it's done differently here but still....they should have called you and checked with you first.

i don't care where you are from, to bring someone to a wedding where they were not invited is RUDE!!!!! i know things are more laid-back outside of NY, but good manners are still good manners!!!
