My RH offered me a significant savings if I moved my date up to March 20, 2010. It's a Saturday night, rather than a Friday night... but it's during lent.
* Are devout Catholics able to eat meat on Saturdays during lent?
* Can I have the ceremony in the church? We're the first 2010 booking for my church, and they penciled us in for April 2010, but my priest doesn't have the 2010 mass calendar so I want to see if we can even move the ceremony before contacting him about the date change.
Thanks for your help!

You can have a ceremony or a full mass at the church during lent, but the readings (should you have a mass) will revolve around some of the lent en topics dictated by the church calendar - given the season, these may be a little depressing.
and you can definitely eat meat on saturday, that's no problem!

You can get married during lent, but some churches will not let you put decorations on the alter.
Extremely devout catholics will not eat meat at all during lent, but that is rare, most will just not eat meat on friday.

Oh, that's OK... we don't want any decorations on the alter... I'll have to ask the priest if we're able to have flowers for the Blessed Mother, but if he says No, that's OK...
Thanks for all your help!

Re: the readings....
Even if you get amrried during Lent, you do NOT have Lenten readings. Your Mass will be a NUPTIAL mass, so you choose readings based on marriage, love, or other readigns that the couple likes. you do not use the readings for the regular daily or Sunday Mass.
I got married the SAturday right before Lent and the priest said it was the next Saturday, we could not have flowers on the altar. I would double check with your church on that. They do keep the church bare during Lent to coincide with the solemnity of the season.
They will not marry you during Holy Week as it is the high week of the year and there are services all week.
Catholics can eat meat on Saturdays, so that shouldn't be a concern. As a PP mentioned there are some devout Catholics that do not eat meat at all during Lent, but that is rare.

Catholics can eat meat on Saturdays, not on Fridays. If it was a Friday wedding, you can get a special dispensation from your pastor where you can eat on Friday and abstain another day.
Yes you can have a ceremony mass.

yes, you absolutely can! they prefer that he has all his Sacraments, but as long as he is baptized you're fine! when the priest or deacon meets with you, he'll ask questions about your SAcraments, etc. I am assuming he's Catholic... if he is another type of Christianity, there is some paperwork done by the Church, but if he's Catholic and baptized, you're fine. if he wants, he can go through RCIA to be confirmed and a full memeber of the Church before your wedding.

Re: Can You get Married in a Church during Lent?
My sister got married during Lent 2007 (the Friday before Good Friday) and the only noticeable change was that she was not allowed to decorate the altar with flowers. Instead they had this weird desert them with branches and whatnot. You never even noticed the lack of flowers, though, because all eyes were on her!

Re: Can You get Married in a Church during Lent?
I've been to Catholic weddings during lent. Some Catholics won't eat meat on the Saturday right before Easter Sunday, but I don't think it's a rule.
Something else to consider...if the rehearsal is on a Friday, you might not get the time you want because most churches do the stations of the cross on Friday evenings. This happened to one friend, but it really wasn't a big deal at all. We just waited until they were done.

As long as its not during the Triduum, you are fine.
Catholics may eat meat on Saturdays, though you may find that some follow a stricter line and do not eat any meat at all during Lent. If you believe some of your guests fall into this category, make sure you have a fish or vegetarian entree on hand.
Your priest should be able to tell you now what weekend Easter falls on for 2010.

Yep! My husband never made his confirmation, but had the rest (that he could/would have), and we were still able to have a full Nuptial mass. I was worried about this as well, but it wasn't a problem at all.
