Re: can you girls help me....
Typically, the only people invited are those whose names appear on the inner envelope of the invitation. But we all have heard horror stories about people calling and asking if their kids can come. You could just put on the invitation 'Adult only reception'

I would even say 18 and over to be safe. I have heard people write in more numbers on the RSVP card to add there kids.

Re: can you girls help me....
coming from a larrrrge family, it was always common knowledge the kids werent invited to the wedding..i only went to my first wedding at the age of 20...
but maybe through word of mouth u can make sure people know its only adults...dont worry its not insulting..weddings are expensive!

We have a huge family and I am only inviting people over 21 - I've already give a heads up - some people aren't happy but I can't please everyone - its getting crazy

I would say definitely have adult reception on the invitation but you also might want to have your mom and fmil warn your family members with young ones.

Re: can you girls help me....
We are doing 16 & older, with a few exceptions. My godson will be 14 (flying in from Texas) and my other out of town cousins who are brothers (one will be 16 and the other 14). I say that is it, but lets see when it gets closer and what FMIL has to say.
I know I have 13 cousins under age of 14 that are def. not going.
Also, we had all children at our engagement party to make sure the felt included somehow.

Re: can you girls help me....
You can do what my cousin did...
she wrote their response cards so for example if fh and I were invited it would say
2 Attending_____ Not Attending_____

Re: can you girls help me....
This is tricky as well, but It wont be to hard now because Im not inviting alot of my uncles because well to be honest they arent a significant part of my life and I dont want to invite people just because they share my blood!! so some kids will be invited but above the age of 14 ....if you want to have kids there Ive heard of some brides highering a babysitter to make sure they are entertained....but on the invites I would just write it out the proper way and if they add their children I would just call them and politly say, due to budget they cant come...100% of the time some member of the family will get insulted but thats life !!

Re: can you girls help me....
I dont know the exact wording like if you wanted to put it on the invitation...but maybe to avoid drama you can call all the families with kids under 13 and explain to keep costs down you are cutting it off at 13....
I think that when you don't explain why kids are not invited people get so defensive...even though i think that kids shouldn't be at weddings....they never have any fun and their parents can't really let loose with them there.

I'd definitely put 'Adult Only Reception' on the invite.

that's my thing. i gentle word-of-mouth type of thing. if people are tacky enough to call me on it, i'm just going to be blunt. it's too expensive to make everyone happy.

great advise, I like the idea of calling them personally

Re: can you girls help me....
We have a huge family and we only invite people over 18, but if they are flying in from out of state, then the family is welcome since they cannot get a baby sitter.
On my invites I plan on writing Mr and Mrs Smith and Family for my OOTers and for those who have a family but I dont want their kids, I am just writing Mr. and Mrs. Smith. My family is pretty good with this and it has cut down on the amount of fights through all the weddings we have had in our family. We all have learned to pay close attention to the front of the envelope and who its addressed to.
