Can you recommend a great cookbook for the culinarily challenged?

Can you recommend a great cookbook for the culinarily challenged?

I'm just not experimental in the kitchen- don't have the experience or the confidence to do it. So I rely on recipes or frozen stir fry meals.

Does anybody have any recommendations for a good cookbook with simple, everyday type recipes?

TIA!!

I have a Betty Crocker cookbook I had to buy as a textbook in college (I was a nutrition major).

It has lots of different categories and includes things like how long to cook different cuts of meat. I think its a good cook book.

crate and barrel have great cookbooks for newlyweds. I can't remember their titles, but I saw them while registering online.

I actually registered for a bunch of Rachael Ray books- I figured I couldn't go wrong with her.

Thanks for your suggestions! Keep 'em comin'!

I own a bunch of books but my favorite is The Joy of Cooking...FMIL bought it for me and it is so informative! It explains how to buy meat and everything else, how to store it, what wines go with what meals, ETC. then there are great receipes in it as well. HTH
