Can you recommend a refrigerator?

Can you recommend a refrigerator?

Hi Ladies....I need to buy a refrigerator and was wondering if you had any suggestions? I have no clue about the specific brands, but I think I want one that has a freezer drawer on the bottom, rather than a side by side.

Thanks a lot!!

I'll try to find a pic of the one my mom bought - love it! It's fridge on top, freezer on bottom. It's single door (not two thin doors) for the fridge portion. The freezer opens like the fridge - a door not a drawer, but when you open the door, there are three clear drawers for freezer items.

LOVE IT. I really want one for my place with FH when we get married.

I highly recommend looking at refrigerators in consumer reports. If you're not a subscriber, at least search their site for the date they recently published refrigerator reviews, and xerox the pages in your local library....

that way, you know the reliability of the refrigerator, and can be educated about what models suit your budget and needs...

I posted this on BHB also, We just had to buy one for our new home. We researched for days before we bought. we got the stainless steel with freezer on the bottom. We bought a Maytag. They seem to be great from all the reviews. We even talked to some repair men and they said LG's and Fridgidaire are they worst you can buy. Hope this helps. Here is a pic of ours.

Well, in terms of style I prefer the 'bottom freezer' models because you really do use the freezer a lot less than the refrigerator part. And the newest thing is the bottom freezer that slides out which is great for maximum storage space.

General Electric is a great brand and has been around for a long, long time. They consistently get good ratings in Consumer Reports Mag.

KitchenAid is a higher level of (I believe) the company Whirlpool so they are very reliable and get good ratings as well.

I have an LG washer and dryer and I have had so-so luck with the machines in the past... the dryer had issues a couple of times but we have a maint. contract and they always came to fix it and for the last few months- it has been great.

Then, there's always Whirlpool which is, again, consistently rated very well. My parents have had GE and Whirlpool for years and always have GREAT luck.

I think the top of the line brand-- for a refrigerator-- is JenAir but of course, that comes with a very $$ price tag. My ex had a JenAir and it was GREAT.

The one thing I can recommend staying away from is Maytag. Maytag used to be a fantastic brand but something happened within the company in terms of the way they manufacture their products and as a result- the past couple of years they have gotten really bad ratings. I believe they either merged with another manufacturing company or something like that but the quality that was once guaranteed is no longer there. My ex had a Maytag Dishwasher and after only three years of minimal use (b/c it was just him living there) the belt gave out and it would have cost 400 dollars to fix it!! I mean, at that rate he just bought a new machine.

I told my Dad about this b/c I was surprised and he told me that the company is not what it used to be.

I hope that helps!!!! Good Luck!!
