If that's what it says in the contract that you signed, I would imagine it's true.

If thats what it says in your contract then that what it is.

If you signed the contract, that's what you agreed to. People really need to read everything they sign carefully! I'm always amazed at how people sign things without reading them.

Every vendor we've been to has said they were suprised (albeit pleasantly) that my FI and I carefully read through every contract before signing anything!

ETF typo!

You might be able to sell your deposit to someone else and transfer the contract but, that's probably about it.

I read mine when I signed. Anytime before six months prior to date you don't get your deposit back ONLY. Anytime after six month mark prior you owe a percentage of the contracts amount.

You can sell your contract to another person and ask them to pay the $500 directly to you or you can try to negotiate with your photographer. But I honestly never hear of anyone getting their depo back or selling it to another bride.

Really the only reason I read through everything is because I wanted to see if lets say the engagement crumbles what happens to our money. I always think of the negatives that could happen and prepare myself IoI

Yup my contract says something very similar, i read the whole thing before signing.

Re: Cancelin photo....

My contract says-

-all cancellations have to be submitted in writing
-all deposits are non-refundable
-and unpaid deposits that were due (but not paid)
still have to be paid : unless they re-book the date
-serivces can be rescheduled to another date, if
the photographers have not previously booked it

when we signed the contract, me and FH were left alone, and I basically read it to him. Then the person we were sitting with came back, asked for questions, and once they were answered we signed.

That's not the only reason to read your contracts - there is TONS of info in there, not just the cancellation policy. You'd be especially suprised at what can be in a photography / videography contract with respect to who owns the rights and what can be used for advertising / promotion!

I have heard that you have to pay something if they can not re-book the date. But since it is a year away they should book the date, so they should not charge you anything except the initial deposit. I have never heard of having to pay the full amount for services that you did not receive. But I don't know exactly what you contract says either. Sorry I could not help much!
