I cancelled my date at the North Ritz Club. Do you girls know if they can hold me accountable for more than my deposit if they cannot rebook for that date. The contract says up to 50% of the cost, which I think is crazy. I'm pretty concerned. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

My understanding is that, unless your hall is in Suffolk county - which North Ritz is not - then whatever your contract states is what the rules are.
Does it say that you are responsible for 50% of the cost if you cancel, or that you're responsible for that if you cancel AND no one else books your date???

Hi Girls,
I cancelled my date at the North Ritz Club for 8/25/2007. Do you girls know if they can hold me accountable for more than my deposit if they cannot rebook for that date. The contract says up to 50% of the cost, which I think is crazy. I'm pretty concerned. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!
If they don't rebook the date, they can hold you to the terms of your contract. If you signed a contract stating you're liable for 50% of the cost, then you're liable for up to 50% of the cost if they are unable to book that date.
This isn't directed to the OP in particular, but to so many people who come on here wanting to get out of their contracts: You need to carefully read what you are signing. So many girls come on here and say 'my contract says x, y, z, but what am I really liable for?' Well, with a small exception relating to suffolk county law and reception halls, you're liable for what you agreed to when you signed the contract!
If they book that date, then you won't be held liable for the 50% of the cost of the contract, but if they don't... that's what you agreed to.
Try to work it out with them to get it lowered, but ultimately, that is what you agreed to. So, yes, you can be held liable for up to that amount if they don't book that date.

Hey I looked at that place. My parents live not too far from there. It is absolutely amazing BUT amazingly expensive.
Hell if you can make it happen go for it..
Best of Luck.

I booked there at the end of January and from what i remember, she said as long as someone else books the day, you get your deposit back.
I might have missed it in the chat, but do you mind me asking why you are cancelling; just b/c i booked them and i am nervous?

Girl, you need to call me--seriously!!!! I am having major issues --I am going through the same thing with The Sandcastle. I had to cancel because my fiancee assaulted me and i had to get a restraining order. I cancelled 7 months in advance and they do not care. I even showed them the order of protection. You are lucky--your contract says 50%--mine is 75% and we already gave $6,000(my poor parents did). Please try to e-mail me through this site,I will fill you in....

You should be nervous, ladies BEWARE . No one tells you this, but catering halls in Nassau are allowed to do whatever they want. Consumer affairs will not help you. The better business bureau will not help you. Only SUFFOLK COUNTY AND NYC HAVE FAIR CANCELLATION POLICIES IN THEIR CONTRACTS. A woman who works in Nassau County Consumer Affairs told me that she tells all her friends and relatives to book outside of Nassau because she knows the catering halls can screw with you.
